What the heck is going on in SoCal?

Every evening the same thing...download speeds drop. Of course after midnight it is better again. This is just getting real old. And they still have not patched the DNS servers.

Anyone care to speculate what the problem is here in SoCal? My 2 cents is an oversold system and traffic shaping kicking in.

I'm in LA and have similar problems. My speed doesn't decrease but I lose connection at least a few times a day.

Mine is horrible. I just got off the phone with Level3 with no help pretty much

If I run a speed test to a local server, ~50mi away, 16ms ping, I see the full 10mb. Once I try a test any further, it slows down.

I'm only seeing 400-500kb/s downloading from a big site like MS, where as I used to see 900-1000kb/s

Whats been up lately!

Same problem here in Anaheim for the last week. Now it's even happening during the daytime hours. I ran a line quality test and I'm showing dropped packets pretty far upstream from me in LA. Maybe they have a a congestion issue or a problem there? Of course try to explain this to a CSR.

Same here-Santa Monica CA ; speeds 960/16 -- called and got recorded message that there's a problem and engineers are working to resolve, no need to stay on the line, blah blah.

Same here in Santa Monica. Can't get a hard line connection at all, but my WiFi will give sporadic signals. Had a supervisor at my apartment today. Says he has no idea what is wrong.

I've been talking to "The office of the President": 818.407.4478

I would like to see Santa Monica allow competition from a second cable company, or have them shut TW down in Santa Monica and give the charter to a better cable company like Cox.

Would love to see Verizon's Fios available soon too.

I doubt anyone will overbuild.
What will you do without any cable while another company has to replace all TW's cable, fiber and equipment?

What did Verizon say?

@rr.com
TW took over Adelphia's existing infrastructure. TW is not fit (functionally to handle the charter for this service in Santa Monica).

Verizon's Fios is not yet available in this area.

Do you have an interest in SoCal ISPs?

We are experiencing the same problems in Highland Park. Paying for 15/2 business class service. In the morning we get 8/1.5 and in the evenings it drops between 1/1.5 and 4/1.5.

We have talked to Tier 3 support, engineering and our account executive and the best solution we have got has been to downgrade our line to 10/1 and perhaps we will have better signals so we won't have fluctuations. I call BS. This is not a problem with signals at our modem. It is a widespread problem.

Have you had signal readings taken at your modem?

Right! How could I have missed that.
Obviously Time Warner has completely transformed itself in the past year.

That is why we keep seeing more loyalty stories like these:

Again, what is your interest in SoCal ISPs?

Download speed goes in the crapper every evening. When will this get better? What can we do? Help, please.

Topping out at 3mbps download again tonight. Sometimes as low as 1-2. This is not $100/month business class service at all. This is what cable was like 6-7 years ago. In 2008 they should be able to offer exactly what they are selling, and have good bandwidth management practices.

I'm on turbo with a 10/1 plan and getting between 2200 kb/s and 3666 kb/s on speed tests here on dslreports.com to the LA server. Something is definitely up.

Using Vonage or Xbox 360 almost impossible this week. Both have been fine until now. If anyone has any news please let me know.
