I just ran some speed tests as well as reliable download locations and it seems a tad slower. I have 3 Mbps service here and it's probably more forgiving, or tolerable, than your lite service. -- Never knock on Death's door. Ring the bell and run, he hates that. |

Haven't had any effect on speed page loads etc. seem fine but I will temper that statement by saying on downloads they just stop pause for 10 to 15 seconds and them resume quite annoying and dial-up like.

| reply to graysonf I wonder if there isn't something we could do collectively to get their attention.
I just ran another test because the service has gone to a crawl, most of the time..

I know they're busy with other things, but perhaps there is a corporate office somewhere where we can get their attention. |

| Well, as you know they don't read here anymore. And the last time I contacted support on the phone with what, to me, was an easier problem, I got nowhere fast.
And it was clear to me they were not interested in helping me. I can tolerate that for my paltry $10/month so long as it works. But lately, it's hosed and I can get six months of cable net service for not much more. My next phone bill is coming soon and I will be making major changes anyway. Dropping DSL could be one of them. |

Funny, I was one of the first in 2000 to get DSL when it came to my area. It was quite flaky then..email problems...newsgroups, if you could call it that and so on. A few years back when Comcast came around, I switched and when it worked, it worked well. They had a few major crashes and as soon as dry loop came about, I switched from Comcast. Got 3Mb extreme. I would like to keep DSL, as I feel that during the hurricane times, they will stay up longer than Comcast, and with my 3rd party VOIP and hefty UPS support, I might maintain my phone service.
If, however, they don't get the show on the road soon, I'll have to take my chances and go back with Comcast, or perhaps Atlantic Broadband, if they win the contract for our condo development. The costs with Comcast were the same as I am paying with DSL, but they gave me twice the speed. The newsgroup limits are of no consequence. |

| I'm entering my tenth year on DSL. Started with the only one in it, Bellsouth, but bailed as soon as competition arrived.
Back with Bellsouth now because the best of the competition is all gone and Bellsouth has $10 DSL Lite thru 2009.
I can get done what I need to get done on the ten hours a month of free dialup from Netzero. Internet is just no longer all that important to me. |

Your Internet on DSL. | Your Internet on Cable | What a place to be parked. |

As you know what counts is how the network is is being powered after a hurricane. Above is a comparison of two different providers methods of achieving that goal.
Now you can decide.

Splitpair, do you have any advice on how to get this escalated or what to say while on the line with the help desk support team?
I can't seem to be able to explain to the helpdesk that the problem is not with my equipment, rather its the gateway located at the ONU or DSLAM (I'm assuming based on the first hop issue).
Please PM or reply if you have any tips. |

| reply to graysonf Back when Katrina hit my latency to dallas servers went from ~30-40ms to 60-70ms. A month or so later it went back down, only to go back up a week later and stay the same. Oddly enough there are a few servers in dallas that I still get that 30-40ms ping to.
