Sure doesn't sound like a plus. Is it still under warranty?

Can you rule out anything "sticky" on the outside of the telescoping lens barrels?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delayed follow-up.

The outside of the lens barrel looks clean and doesn't make the vibration noise when the lens is coming out.

Unfortunately I think it is out of warranty. I've had it for a few years.
