If anything like its predecessor, the LX2, it is the dSLR users perfect pocket companion! Full user controls, fast lens, excellent image quality with a few tweaks of the menu from factory defaults, RAW capability, obviously excellent lens, and a nice compact size. It is the same one Leica rebrands for their D-Lux series, only with the settings tweaked to their specs.

Full specs and stuff here:

They also released news of the FZ28:

I must be missing the 'ultra wide' part...
35mm film camera equivalent: 24-60mm

I thought the same.. Though, maybe they're thinking that 28mm is 35mm standard wide-angle so 24mm is ultra-wide?

I've been truly amazed by the life-like colours from my Panny P&S but the low light capabilities leave me wanting still apart from the fact it keeps skin colour under flash reasonable (as opposed to the orange I see in Canon P&Ss). Hopefully Panny are improving in this area.

I don't think there is currently anything wider on a P&S given their like 6x crop factor.

I agree Nezmo See Profile, I too would love to see them make strides in better low light capabilities and better high ISO performance. If they could lock down those two things.. man oh man.. they would have a super camera, lol.

The one nice thing with the LX3 is that it can shoot in RAW mode and I can tell you, from experience with the FZ8, that RAW mode allows you to squeeze far more detail and extra capabilities out of the camera when using it... you should know that from your Canon dSLRs.

Alot of review sites scream about the terrible noise with Panasonics, but I still have not really seen this problem with any of the models I own nor have used. They seem to have a tiny bit more then some of the competition, but they also seem to capture more details and truer colors as well. I do know that one simple tweak in the menu/setup gets rid of a boat load of noise and makes images much more superior.

Simple to do too...

Go to your picture adjustment (PICT.ADJ. on most or maybe Color Mode on some) and set it to Natural instead of the Normal default.

Next, go to the Noise Reduction settings and either turn it off or as low as possible and use a program like Neat Image + custom profile instead.

Using the above technique I can get decent ISO200 and ISO400 shots from my LZ2. Haven't tried on the FZ8 + RAW as of yet to be honest, as I have had no need to shoot above ISO100 on it yet.

14mp on a P&S camera with a small sensor. I'm sure that will work well.

As one of the Engadget reader pointed out:

Everyone here has failed to notice that the image sensors on 95% of 10MP Point and Shoot camera's is 1/2.3" to 1/2.5" in size, whereas the image sensor on the DMC-FX150 is 1/1.72" in size.

As a result, the surface area of the DMC-FX150's image sensor is OVER 80% larger than your "typical" 10MP camera.

So 14 MP's is 40% more MP's than a 10MP camera, but the surface area is over 80% larger. Sounds like a good tradeoff to me!

That being said, I'd be even happier if it was only 10MP's spread onto this newer, larger sensor. =)

I agree with gugarci See Profile as to functionality, but the problem is, the general public is still sold on MegaPixels! So, unless they release a model with more MPs, the general public will consider the competition with more MPs quicker then the product with less MPs.

BUT, the good thing is, the sensor is larger, as pointed out by aloneworld See Profile, which is a giant plus! Even though the MPs are greater... you can still shoot full rez and then, if done properly, reduce the image size down to whatever size is needed to print after cropping and this will not only reduce noise (without using noise reduction) but also increase the quality (if done properly). By done properly, simply meaning, using a good algorithm like Lancsoz or Bicubic Smoother and a proper local contrast and sharpening technique to recover that lost from resizing, and you should end up with an amazing print!
