| You can set the amount of memory that is available for PS to use. But a 32 bit operating system can only use just a bit over 3 gig. If you run out of memory then PS uses your hard drive for a scratch pad. -- ****aka The WIZARD **** A Founding member Seti BBR Team Starfire**** |

Things wont change much until the 64bit versions come out.
Windows 64 bit CS4 OS X 64 bit CS5 (Since it will be a bigger rewrite/ take more time) |

| Looks like I need more hard disk space...
There is an upwards limit to the scratch file somewhere around 64 Exabytes, but youll run out of ram before you get there so the practical limits is more like 32 Terabytes according to Photoshop engineer Chris Cox.
wOOT!

| Unless you're working on an earth sized billboard....or a 1"=1" map of the US... 3 Gig should be fine for 90% of what most people do. It uses the scratch disk regardless of how much RAM you have.... You can reduce the number of Undos available...that speeds thing up a bit...there are pages on Adobe's site that tell how to get the most out of it depending on what you'll be doing... -- We want the president to be responsible for his whole administrations actions...and even previous admins....yet we won't accept responsibility for our own or our children's actions. THAT'S retarded. Don't demand it if you yourself can't live it. |
