It doesn't cost that much for a support contract, and then you get TAC and warranty support (advanced replacement, next business day examples below), in addition to software updates. The two cheapest options for the 871W are:

or, if you also want IPS signature updates (if you want to use IOS IPS:

these are list prices. A quick search using those part numbers should yield you a basic support contract for under $40 (try pcuniverse). Worth every penny. |
