| 1. What 24" dish? The elliptical is 29x39, and the smallest round one is 39" 2. Why did you move the dish? 3. Why did you open the modem? 4. Did you put the "battery" back in? 5. What's eBay got to do with this?

| It's got 32MB of RAM, I wouldn't be surprised to find a battery. Something's gotta hold the firmware in memory. I've just never found it necessary to open one. Having said that, I have seen a few other electronic components that could have been described as being "about the size of a quarter"

| reply to pa64 yes theres a battery in the hn7000s
i will take a picture of the unit and upload it later.
and i the reason why i moved the dish , because it was getting a poor singal of 38.
any how the main reason i bought this modem off of ebay is , that my old hn7000s died.
and i had it for over 2years since it and the dish was installed by hughes net back in winter nov.2006.
now they hughes want over $200.00 or $300.00 for a brand new modem hn7000s.and they wanted to charge me $129.00 just to have a pro installer to come out and look at the dish.
i replaced the a cable to the lnbf on the dish , because it was just almost falling off.
the dish is a pro plus dish, don't know the real size, think it's a 24". |

| Well if the battery fell out I a guessing that the modem has reverted back to original factory firmware and probably no configuration file. Can you access the control panel? If you can you need to treat it just like it was a brand new modem. You will have to manually enter all install data. Before i did anything though I would use the reset button on the back to reset the modem back to defaults just in case the battery removal did not do that. Plus I am not sure but I don't think you can just swap out modems. The site ID and SAN/PIN I am pretty sure are tied to serial number. Could be wrong about that not sure. But if not true I could simply buy all the used systems i wanted and then enter my SAN/PIN and have four or five systems running for free. Plus every new modem I ever got came with new SAN/PIN. -- 9000 spaceway III, 7000S SatMex 5 1270, Dlink wirless |

| reply to pa64 I had a guys modem once that would come up with all five lights flashing. I found that it had evidently lost it's serial number, since the S/N on the System Control - System Info page showed the S/N was all 0s.
I don't know how it got into that state, and of course it wouldn't register. I couldn't find any way, including telnet, to put the S/N back in. Maybe there is a way to ftp the file with the S/N, I didn't have time to look into that. I was on the road so I don't know how he finally solved his problem. Replace the modem I would be my guess.
Sorry pa64, I know this is beyond the scope of your question, but I would be interested to know if your modem still has a S/N after the battery incident. -- -ben- --- HN7000S | ProPlan | .74 | 2W | 117W/1090 |

If the power light is off and the other 4 are flashing then the modem is unrecoverable and will need to be replaced. -- I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but what I'm not sure about is that what you heard isn't exactly what I meant. |

| I had a 7000s from a repair that had lost all it's built-in web functions, (http, telnet, ftp) so I decided to look inside. Yes, there was a 1/2 dollar sized 3V lithium battery in it. I don't know how it came out of pa64's, it's soldered in, and I broke the - mounting pin trying to unsolder it. I thought maybe if I disconnected the battery the modem might recover it's web functions from ROM.
Wrong! As a matter of fact disconnecting the battery put the modem into the non-recoverable state, no power light, all 4 other lights flashing. Hooking the battery back up again did nothing either. Evidentally that's what happened with pa64's. It must have really been slammed in transit for the battery to break off like he said.
Interestingly, near the battery is a switch, labeled s1, that seems to do a hard reset of some kind. Next time I have an almost dead one I think I'll see what effect, if any, s1 has. Clearing the RAM by removing the battery is definitely not a solution! -- -ben- --- HN7000S | ProPlan | .74 | 2W | 117W/1090 |

i see a jtag port connector on the main board. is there some way to re program it from that. way on the in front of the sliver box , which is the lnbf turners i think.
i called hughes and they said the modem was locked and had a $161.00 billed on it.
i chould' not even speak to tech support.because of the $161.00 bill that was on the modem.
i know you can jtag some f.t.a box's back to life. |

Forget the modem and chalk it up to experience. Anytime before you buy a modem off of ebay you have to check the serial number against Hughes database to see if there is an outstanding bill against it. They will not release the modem to be registered until the arrears have been payed. Sometimes people who default on their contracts will sell the equipment to get some $ back. A good and recent modem can go for good bucks. Yet when you get it your out of luck. Hughes doesn't care that you bought the equipment off of ebay or any private party. They simply will not allow you to sign up a modem that has a bad serial number. -- HN7000S IA-8 1270 / 8-PSK 3/4 (14) / Router:67.142.140.95 /.74 1 watt / Pro / Pentium 3.2ghz, 1gb ram /Dual Boot WinXP Pro/LinxuS / Firefox 2.0.0.12 / www.bigbaywx.com |

I am sure it can be done, but where. Even if there is a Hughes refurb facility somewhere i doubt that there is any procedure for a user to access it. One of the first items of advice given to people buying off of EBAY is to get the serial number before you buy and run it thru billing. Even if you reprogram that thing Hughes will never commission it until the bill is paid. I bet the guy who sold it to you knew that. I am sorry but you got a really nice brick. I have a nice Direct TV receiver that was hit by lighting yetersday. Would you like to buy it? -- 9000 spaceway III, 7000S SatMex 5 1270, Dlink wirless |
