GPS unit for Geo Tagging?

Hi, new DSLR owner here wanting some advice on Geo Tagging. I've looked through the archives and see that there was some discussion a year ago or so, but nothing recent. I am going to Disney World in a month or so and want to geo tag my photos from GPS. Apparently there are Geo Tagging specific GPS units. The Sony GPS-CS1 »www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/sto···r=GPSCS1 and the ATP photo finder »photofinder.atpinc.com/ are the two that I have come across.

Apparently the ATP photo finder has poor reviews, but I like the fact that it shows lat/long and time. I've always wondered how you can set the time on your camera to "GPS time" without the display on the Sony unit.

I took a standard "hiking" GPS unit with me to Hawaii a few years ago, but that was a loaner and I don't really need all the features that they provide, I just want to geo tag my photos.

Any suggestions?

From checking your reference, the Sony GPS-CS1 seems to be no longer available, and I'm really not sure what the Sony Photo Finder really is.

Consequently, I'd still tend to stick with a real GPS unit from a well-known source, e.g., Garmin or Magellan (which can also be used for getting lost at Yosemite) and then use some of the fairly inexpensive third-party software to synchronize date/time stamps on your GPS unit and your camera (presuming you've synchronized the clocks on both prior to setting out). And both Garmin and Magellan units are fairly well supported by mapping software from various sources throughout the world. I use Mapsource for the US and the UK, and supplement it with Memory-Map for the UK.

I'm still quite happy with my Garmin etrex Legend Cx unit, which is about as cheap as you can get and still display third-party maps and upload/download from a memory card. Unless Garmin has now eliminated this unit, you should be able to find it readily at REI (which you MUST have in San Jose somewhere). (And, yes, you can spend a lot more money if you're so inclined and sometimes get even better location data in the process.)

I am somewhat suspicious of overly cheap GPS units. They may be older technology and not do a good job of accurately marking your location. I've certainly seen lots of photos via Google Earth and Panoramia in which the recorded location is clearly off by over a mile. (Yes, some of this could just be the result of manual 'guesstimation'.)
