Has anyone else seen the film this weekend? Especially in IMAX?
Amazing film. Well executed, well edited. And although 2.5 hours long, the pace is very good and doesn't feel that long (at least to me). Great script and some very funny scenes.
Acting was good all around and Heath Ledger does stand out as the Joker. I do feel that even if he hadn't died, he would still be getting the amount of praise he is in regards to his performance.
I could easily re-watch this movie many times over.
Anyone else? -- Disclaimer: If I express an opinion, it is my own opinion, not that of Bell or its related companies. |

| reply to Deadpool The wife and I really want to see the movie even before it got the reviews. Ledger did a magnificent performance in 'A Knight's Tale' which had him playing a peasant turned knight by other than the usual ways.
That was a great story and even when you knew things did not really work that way in 13th century France, they kept a lot of the historical accuracy in where they could which made the movie that much more enjoyable.
I'm not sure if there are any IMAX theaters around here but the regular movies will make do then there is always the HD released DVR for the 56" home theater setup where we can enjoy it anytime we want and the soda and popcorn will be a lot cheaper. -- Always Reach Beyond Your Grasp |

| reply to Deadpool This movie is incredible. My girlfriend has been looking forward to this one for ages, shes a huge Batman/Bale/Ledger fan. We went to the midnight showing in Toronto at a regular theater, and on Saturday we went again to see it in Imax.
This movie is a must see in Imax... after watching it in Imax I couldn't go back to seeing it in a regular theater. We're debating going again to see it, it's just so good. --

They definitely saved the best for the film. But the entire movie is good and nothing can be removed.
I agree with much of the reviews out there: It's a crime drama which happens to have superheroes and supervillains.

| You could try the Coliseum in Mississauga. It's not that far away and is less busy (usually). They may have some available still.
I wouldn't wait an extra week though, you should definitely go with a full crowd in there, makes the experience so much more better. --

but the general consensus seems to be good for the movie, hopefully it lives up to the expectations. |

| reply to Deadpool The only thing I was disappointed with is how they portrayed Harvey Dent. He was a hero before turning into Two-face, which was nice. However Two-face didn't really have a major role and they killed him off quickly. When I seen that Harvey Dent was in the movie I expected them to lead into Two-face.
Besides that, great movie. A lot of interesting moments with Batman questioning himself. I think internal conflict is always a nice addition to movies with hero's.
It's really a shame about Heath Ledger. I feel he would of won an award if he was still alive, but now with his death I think people are going to try to discredit him a bit. More along the lines of "oh he won because he died", even though he really did put up an amazing performance. Unlike Jack Nicholson, Heath actually makes you believe that the Joker is a nut case. You can feel the insanity coming from the Joker.
The nice thing is for those who didn't see the first movie you can still appreciate the movie. |

| Great movie, not able to see it in IMAX though but since I dont see many to begin with not a big deal. No doubt, Heath Ledger stole the show with an oscar winning performance. He had great lines to begin with but his delivery was superb and his character was evil and yet alluring, damn fine job. I am a believer in his theories LOL. |

| reply to Deadpool Well, I guess I'm the dissenting voice here, even 'tho I don't think it was a bad movie, I didn't think it was a great movie either. That said, I will probably go see it again.
I'm also not sure why anyone would want to see this in IMAX, there's nothing in the movie that was all that visually stunning to warrant the need for a big screen. Apparently from all of those that enjoyed the Imax version, maybe the boring car chase scene might have been more interesting on the massive screen--but I doubt it.
Ledger did a good job portraying The Joker as it was written (not so sure about Oscar-worthy 'tho, as some say). I didn't find The Joker, as written, to be all that compelling or interesting. While some of the dialog was excellent and entertaining I didn't find all that there was enough meat in it to justify the praise that everyone's piling on.
Bale moved away from the mobile and flexible Batman and moved to a Keeton-esque stiff Batman (as well as a single dimensional Bruce Wayne), which was boring and annoying.
Morgan Freeman and Aaron Eckhardt's (Dent) characters were unnecessary and Dent's subplot should probably have been moved into it's own movie.
Plot wise, the movie was all over the place, it was overthought, overpacked, and overindulgant in some places, and woefully thin in others (there's this little thing literary people like to call 'character development', only Dent does it in this film).
I don't know who wrote the script, but they're clearly not familiar with the concept that a story has more to it than simply action and plot twists. I don't know about anyone else, but I started expecting a plot twist at every turn--and I wasn't disappointed (they would have received more of a reaction from me by the end if they HADN'T twisted).
As previously noted, there's really two movies in here, and I had hoped that people would have understood by now that adding more and more characters/bad guys into a superhero movie doesn't make it better.
On a final note, did anyone not find that Gary Oldman cast as Jim Gordan reminds them of Twitch from Spawn?
Oh, and on a final final note, it's amazing to me that they can evacuate 700 people off of the Titanic...I wonder how many you could get off of a ferry in 30 minutes... -- Some people think I'm an idiot. I disagree, but idiocy is subjective--so they may well be right. With this in mind, take everything I post with a grain of salt, eh? |

| reply to Deadpool One of the best movies I've seen in awhile.
Ledger was unconscious when he played this role,he was that believable.
And I too was surprised at how fast they killed Two-face off,I remember quite a few comics of Batman fighting him.
It'll be interesting to see where they take this in the next sequel. 9/10 -- ~~Get our troops home...now!!~~ |
