Wondering how you all clock in and out at your job? I have an electronic badge that I swipe when entering and leaving the building. I'm actually on salary, so it doesn't really keep track of my hours for pay, but can be pulled up to show if I'm at work or whatever.
At one job I had to fill out a paper timesheet, have my boss sign it at end of week, then send it to management.
What do you all do? |

| I have always been salaried so there was no reason to keep track of my hours.
I probably always made minimum wage. -- This post printed on 100% recycled bytes |

| reply to dibbers Been salary and always needed to fill out a time sheet - ours is electronic web based app. Many of our folks work on several different projects at the same time so it needs to be tracked back to the project.
Other jobs I was at that were salary also needed time sheets - even if you did not work on other projects and that was done via an Excel spreadsheet. -- Brian

| reply to dibbers I'm salaried. I have a time sheet that I put a great big "S" on it and that takes care of it. I'm not sure what happens when I take vacation or sick, I haven't been there long enough.
At a previous job where I was hourly, we originally had a paper time sheet and then we went to a web based one that was a PITA. Other jobs had card readers. The thing I've noticed about a "swipe-in/out" type of job, is that everyone has them figured out how to have it always round in your favor. I.E. work 5 minutes past the hour and it rounds up to 15 minutes worked, etc. -- This Space for Rent... |

But you don't get punished for it or anything of that nature.
But it all evens out anyways, we get 15min breaks we don't have to clock out for, a 15min break is normally 30min break for lots of people there.. |

| reply to dibbers We use a web-based "employee self-service" site that we punch in on (among other HR & payroll functions).
Kind of silly though... I punch in for the entire week on Monday morning. Would you believe that I've never been even 1 minute late or taken an extended lunch? |

| reply to dibbers I just roll in whenever I feel like it-- well between the hours of 21:00 and 00:00. When I show up depends on the workload and number of staff out. I am salaried and usually work four 11 hour days (nights).
I also have to perform timekeeping for our non-exempt (hourly, but not really- they get a salary but also overtime) staff. I use a web app that is fed by a punch clock for this, also utilize a paper sheet as a backup. Timekeeping can be a pain in the ass when you have to edit a lot. |

| reply to dibbers Fingerprint reader. They log everything to the second. If you're 10 minutes late, you're in trouble. The thing is it's annoying sometimes and refuses to read your print properly, and waits a long time to cycle--- sometimes it can take a few minutes to get "clocked in."
Which is really annoying if you started clocking in at 07 mins past when you were due, and it finally clocks you in at 11 mins after and notes your lateness and demands a reason why (Drop down list, and guess what, none of them are "This POS fingerprint reading system took 5 mins to clock me in") -- "Regulatory capitalism is when companies invest in lawyers, lobbyists, and politicians, instead of plant, people, and customer service." - former FCC Chairman William Kennard (A real FCC Chairman, unlike the current Corporate Spokesperson in the job!) |

| I have a handy tool that I wrote for myself; and when I switch tasks; I select that task, and it starts the time for that activity at the selection time; and puts in the same time as the ending time for that task.
Then at the end of the week; I run a summary and it tells me what to code where.
My tool runs on my laptop all the time and when I get a phone call I switch tasks; .... so it's pretty handy.
It also leaves the documentation on my laptop should someone question what I was doing between hrs xx.yy to zz.aa on date d; I can look it up quickly and provide that data too. -- ---Barney |
