justin : off topic on remotes. I was a user of the logitech 1000 and despite being well reviewed I found it really bad.

a) to use it you had to look at it, not at the tv
b) the battery died, isn't available other than from logitech
c) it was buggy, and slow
d) it was somewhat fragile

so when the battery died, I took the chance and "upgraded" to the cheaper harmony One. This is a MUCH better universal. Lots of real backlit buttons but also the programmable color touch screen. Proper shape. Can be used without looking at it. Less bugs and faster in channel flicking. Only problem: the damn thing lacks RF extender functionality.

But I'm finally satisfied! I don't think there is any comparable universal below the super high end versions.

The system logitech use for programming the remote under windows and mac is still totally brain dead slow and stupidly frustratingly designed. But thats a setup phase annoyance.

So getting back to the topic I'd get the IR adapter and get a harmony One and put all those other remotes into the bottom drawer for good..

JSY : I have the Sony remote, but I'm sort of mixed with it being bluetooth. Then again, I don't know what IR remote out there could be made to work with it. It's just that now I have 3 remotes that look almost identical to each other - each from Sony. The TV, the Audio/Video Home Theatre, and the PS3, and while the TV and Home Theatre play nice with each other, the PS3 is kinda out there. It really would have been nice to have had an integrated IR controller on the PS3 remote so that I could control something like the volume of my TV. I do so much remote swapping that sometimes I sit there and have a brain fart and don't know which to pick up. I haven't been able to find any universal remote that would control everything satisfactorily.

Then I have another Sony remote for a DVD recorder and yet another Sony remote for an old VHS machine that I had hooked up to the DVD recorder to transfer videos. LOL!

I love Sony and all, but one thing about their remotes - they are never really intuitive. They've never been.

C0deZer0 : Only one really worth using is the Sony brand model, because there is no IR sensor for the PS3 so that you could use a universal remote that most standard home theater equipment would have used.

Pretty much all (or most) the others have to use a USB dongle in order to fake the IR support so that their remotes could be used (likely because they didn't want to have to pay for the Bluetooth usage, or then retro-make a driver so that it would work on the PS3, and probably pay Sony some kind of royalty to make their remotes no longer price-competitive).

Anyways, the simple suggestion is to stick with the official one.
