| [Cam] New Pentax back help
My wife has a Pentax film camera with 2 lenses that she got for HS graduation 4 years ago. The camera has AF and all kinds of stuff in the book that it says it can do but we have never used. The lenses are Pentax 75-300 and 28-90. I was thinking of getting her a digital back for her lenses. I don't know jack about DSLRs and need some advice. I don't want to spend a wad of cash however. -- Back-ups? e don't need no stinking ba$%*()%%!$#`~&%(&)^%^*.... Connection lost] Abort Retry Fail |

| Like I said I don't know jack about Digital SLR. I got 2 Pentax lenses and want to see about getting just a camera that can use the lenses. Do I have to stay with Pentax or are the lenses interchangeable between brands? -- Back-ups? e don't need no stinking ba$%*()%%!$#`~&%(&)^%^*.... Connection lost] Abort Retry Fail |

| I would stay with Pentax, they make excellent dSLR bodies.
Not knowing your budget.....I may suggest the K200 or a K10D. That would put you in the $600-700 range.

| reply to mibagent_x Either of the cameras suggested are good ones. There is also the K100D Super, which might be in the $400-$500 range, and the K100D for even less. All of them can still be found new, though it's a bit harder for the K10D. The K200D is the newest, but the K10D, though lacking one or two of the K200D's features, is the most advanced (but probably easiest to use) of this bunch. I think you can figure out the order of the rest. Since you have no real experience at this point, any of them should suit you well, though if you think you might start taking this stuff seriously, there might be a drawback to the K100D. The lenses you have will work without issue, though be aware they are just so-so lenses. Nothing wrong with them, though nothing spectacular either. |

| Not familiar with the seller(frankly I trust the one in the link I gave you for the K10D more), but the "extras" aren't worth the extra $100 over buying the camera with kit lens from Amazon. Plus there it qualifies for another $100 rebate, bringing you to $550 shipped, after rebate. |

| reply to TigerNutz I like the K200D you found TigerNutz . Really thinking about that one. How big of a card would you suggest to get? I currently have 2 512MB cards I use with my 5.1MP point and shoot.
Also is the 18-55 lens worth the extra $60? |

| I think it is - its one of the better 'kit' lenses out there, and you won't find anything that wide for anywhere near that money. You'll find on a DSLR that 28-90 is not very wide, you'll appreciate the extra on that end for sure. -- "We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us.... | reply to mibagent_x If I get the K200D should I get regular SD or SDHC? From what I am starting to read is that if I get SDHC I have to use the USB from the camera not my card reader because it dosen't support HC. I always hatted the fact that there was such a pause after snapping a pic with point and shoot cameras I used. Or will that not be an issue with this camera? -- Back-ups? e don't need no stinking ba$%*()%%!$#`~&%(&)^%^*.... Connection lost] Abort Retry Fail |
