| reply to duncansantan Granted I don't run Ubuntu as a primary operating system* on any of my machines, I do know quite a few people that dual-boot Ubuntu and Windows XP and use Ubuntu as their primary OS. I've worked with it (mainly on their machines) and have found that I really like it!

| He asked a truncated question, so I gave a truncated answer.
Trailer is sitting in the drive way ready to load. We have to go to Houston, again. (Second trip in a month.) Mother-in-law broke her hip on 6/7 and we need to go back down to visit with her. Her guardian takes care of her, but she's on some good medication now which makes it possible for my wife to visit with her mother. (For the first time in about 35 years.) |

You can download an evaluation DVD ISO for free from MS.
You can install a *full system* without having to enter a "CD KEY".
At installation, your 60-day evaluation period clock starts running. You can add another 60 days twice to that, using the command: slmgr.vbs -rearm.
After your 180 days (total), you'll need to reformat/reload.
IMHO, if you want to "swing the other way", I'd suggers you look at FreeBSD »www.freebsd.org/. IMHO the linux distros are starting to not only install like Windows, but run like it, too!
BSD (i.e. FreeBSD) OTOH, is built like a "brick s---house". You notice it the moment you start installation.

2k8 Server makes a *great* desktop OS, but I prefer Linux or FreeBSD as the OS on a (real) server.
