| Can I save my DCT3416 info to DVD??
I love my HD DCT 160 GB cable box with HDMI,,. I record the HiDef titles onto the onboard HD and thoroughly enjoy the 'anamorphic widescreen' and 1080i clarity on my 46" Sony.. The movies are so clear and perfect I like to keep these titles on my 5045 Liteon DVD/HD recorder .,, BUT I find the only way to transfer the video/audio is by the the three RCA jacks out of the 3416 .. The recordings are then downsized to 480i and the quality is now ..'just analog TV, no ananmorphic, only widescreen and a big drop in resolution. There are a number of USB and other 'type' outputs on the rear of the 3416., Is there any hope of these eventually being used for my saved recordings?? |

| The USB and other outputs do have the potential to be activated in the future through a firmware upgrade, though I couldn't tell you the status on this, or even if it's still intended (it was at one point).
As for transfering your HD recordings to your HD recorder, you definitely won't be able to do it through the three prong RCA jacks. Depending on your DVD recorder, you'll either have to use five prong component cable (typically green/blue/red video, red/white audio) or the HDMI cable directly into the DVD recorder.
Depending on the recorder, this should work without issue. |

| The RCA jacks (I meant) are the Yellow (video) and red and white ( stereo left and right),, that is ( except for channel 3 coaxial) the only way to transfer, except I do have S-Video out as well when I think about this) .. the component jacks on my Liteon are for output only and do not have any input.. One day I'll upgrade to a Liteon or a device that has HDMI inputs ., But you do answer my question though in the ' one day thru firmware updates this will be feasible.., But When ??/ |

| reply to ttodd0450 Couldn't say. As I mentioned, the intention was once there, but given how long the devices have been on the system with those components disabled, I wouldn't hold my breath, if they are still coming out at all.
That said, if you only have composite/RCA and S-Video input on your DVD recorder, you're not going to be able to record HD content as neither of those inputs are capable of doing so. |

Exactly my point in the original thread.... |

| reply to ttodd0450 I believe you can do it via the firewire port to a pc, then copy to dvd that way. The method used basically requires you to play the recording off the DCT and actively record it to your pc while it's playing. It's a pain but it's supposed to work. I don't have any links atm but if you google it I'm sure you'll find the info you need. |

| reply to ttodd0450 There is no firewire port with that particular model, nor would it likely be active if there was one. If you were to go the PC route, there are videocards capable of accepting component cable input, however. But I believe it's a rather expensive route to take. |

@shawcable.net | reply to ttodd0450 I had the 6416 in mind, thought other than the analog tuner they were the same.
The 6416 has firewire and it is active. |

@shawcable.net | reply to CogitoSum There *is* a firewire port on the 3416 and it *is* active. I have 12 GB of TS files on my laptop straight from my 3416. |

@shawcable.net | Thanks for verifying my earlier post, I was fairly certain it did, but was just going off the top of my head at the time. |
