 Calgary email problems

Not sure how far it extends in Calgary and beyond but I have been having email issues with all accounts using Shaw's outgoing server (shawmail.cg.shawcable.net) on and off since late yesterday. Messages I sent at 4 PM yesterday were not delivered until 10 PM. For the last hour I could not send anything -- Outlook always returned an error "421 #4.4.5 Too many connections to this host"

I called Shaw tech support and the first thing the recorded message says is that they are experiencing a "brief technical issue" re: sending and receiving of email.

Not much fun since Shaw prevents residential accounts from using third party mail servers for outgoing.

Just thought I'd post in case it was helpful for others.

Thanks, I just popped in here to see if anyone else was having an issue with this. My mother keeps calling me because she has been unable to send e-mail since the same time. She's worried that a virus is stealing her e-mails and internets.

Panorama Hills, using shawmail.cg.shawcable.net as well for SMTP, but receiving through POP is working.

Hmmm ... I've been having intermittent problems sending mail (using Shaw's outgoing server (shawmail.cg.shawcable.net) as a smarthost) since yesterday as well.

webmail seems to be working fine but that's just a test for me.

There's been some sort of problem with the outbound mail servers. Some timeouts, some errors, some messages being delayed by hours. And that's just what I've seen. I don't know the full extent, but I hope it gets fixed soon.

I am in the lower mainland in BC

The recorded message indicates that all customres in the lower mainland may experience problems in sending email. Inbound and webmail is not affected.
