| West TX Suddenlink blues
It is now clear to me, after dealing with countless service calls and the subsequent visit from the near comatose field techs (especially the large blonde woman who works in Andrews) that Suddenlink is, without a doubt, incapable of providing the quality of service they so diligently advertize all over my TV.
I am at my breaking point and would like to know if anyone else around the Permian Basin has been forced to switch to DSL, and how they feel about the quality of satelite vs. Suddenlink in West Texas?
I pay for, and have been paying for a 10m bandwidth, and have NEVER recieved it in any form. My connection has never been that fast, not has it ever been anywhere close to reliable. I'm not looking for miracles... I just want to get pretty close to what I am paying for, and not have to worry about losing my connection in the middle of a multiplayer game.
Help me out guys. Should I just go DSL? I've never used it, so I am a novice when it comes to thier speeds, etc. | | DJBuzz24

| I'm not around Andrews (I'm in Arkansas), but it seems the problems are common among SL users nationwide (California, WV, AR, and TX users are pretty active here).
For what it's worth, I switched to 10meg CenturyTel DSL last week and haven't seen any downloads slower than 6meg, but 99% of the time I'm able to max out my connection with downspeeds bursting as fast as 1.1MB/s (that's a big B, not a little one). My uploads have been fantastic, reaching 98% my upload capacity (makes downstream unusable, though, due to ack overhead). I've lost dsl signal (not sync) a couple of times (moving the line to the NID today), but it's barely noticeable and fairly easy to troubleshoot.
It's CERTAINLY nothing like the issues I've had with SL. It's no secret that I personally feel as if SuddenLink is the worst communications provider I've had the displeasure of dealing with...
After 14yrs in Internetworking for major ISP's, that's saying a whole friggin lot.
Don't waste anymore time. SL will dillydalley trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist, rather than focus on their own network issues. I think the idea is that after they've exhausted all other possible scenarios they finally settle on the only solution they've ever really had, and begrudgingly upgrade capacity for problem areas.
Of course, you'll never know about any of this, aside from them appearing to work really, really hard while the upgrade expenses are approved, circuits ordered, and finally turned up. I guess perception is everything, and as long as they continue showing up at your door your perception is that they're actually *trying*.
