It's really just outrageous how I have to carry around this antique that I have with an ever-weakening battery (a nice big Li-ion, thankfully, so still pretty good) because there is no way you can get a new phone these days that's just a phone (i.e.- turn it on and talk into it). Christ, I don't want a camera, MP3 player, email appliance, web browser, GPS, dance partner, gaming console, personal valet, electric toothbrush, corkscrew, sewing machine, and personal vibrator all in one. I want a friggin' phone!!!
sure you can...in fact, Speakout Wireless is perfect for the casual user like yourself...basic phones, and cards that last one full year with no silly fees.

There's a difference between a "casual" user and a user of voice wireless services who a) doesn't want the hassle of a prepaid plan, b) sometimes requires U.S. roaming -- don't know if these basic prepaid things do that, c) sometimes requires the use of analog services in remote areas, and d) sometimes racks up a huge amount of airtime. I don't think I'd be well served by the 7-11 kind of plan which really seems geared more to the teenager who chats with the girlfriend.

wolfie, it doesn't make sense to make a phone without those features...not that you really want to use them, but most people do, and they cost next to nothing to put in the phone...by not putting those features in there, they exclude too many "potential" customers.
