Re: Alltel for wireless or consider a internet Co-op...

The wireless provider that I am considering is Alltel. We are in a pine forest as well... I am not only surrounded by pine trees, but this town is down in a "bowl". One thing that I know is that Alltel will not let me "out of a contract" if I go beyond the 15 day trial period. We have to really give it a good try out upon receiving the equipment !!!

Not a chance for DSL or cable here, ever. There is a Co-op internet here. Again, the pine trees block us and there is no one to "bounce off of". Perhaps if Alltel doesn't pan out, we can work out something with the Co-op internet service.

The local Co-op internet works very well for many residents. It's said to be VERY fast. The school and the local county library are on it as well.

If you have a group of people interested in starting up an internet Co-op and the technical people to run it... (technician of one... maybe with a back up or two) that may be something for you to consider. The equipment is in a spare room of a home and the tower is of course up on a very high mountain/ridge. the purple orchid
