Can anyone explain that insane setup that is on that forum you linked to? What in the world is that for? LASERS?? DIODS?? computer cables?

I'll say.. This guy's devotion to the craft is apparent not only in his equipment but in his photos. Those flying insect shots are truly amazing and very unique. Sometimes you just have to be different.

This works well for me. A relatively inexpensive ring flash, but one that has iTTL metering.
