| reply to Brian28 First, are you having actual problems? On a clean line, some connections are 100% reliable even if they are on the lower end of the recommended ranges.
-12 is borderline. -15 is the absolute lowest.
Keep checking the signal levels, at the peak of a hot day the signal levels can drop by several DB. If, on the other hand, this is the absolute LOWEST your connection goes, it might be ok.
The more important figure is really the SNR, which is also not great but within acceptable range. -- Laser eye surgery rocks! I love frickin' laser beams. |

| reply to Brian28 You may or may not have issues. I can't say much else except maybe look for what you're losing signal through. If you're not having issues, you probably won't(could be just a long cable run, etc but clean line) If you are, whatever is causing the loss could be introducing interference. Your S/N is not bad at all. I'd say you shouldn't have issues, unless ingress is an issue. Your upstream is very good. So, are you having issues? |

| reply to Brian28 For a cable company, Cox really has some good standards(I have worked with them in the past and the techs are great too). I really wouldn't mind having them here, instead of TWC. While a 35 or higher S/N is a good thing to have, I don't see 33.9 as a sign of trouble(at his signal level, trouble with noise would make it sink like a rock). If it were fluctuating widely, it might be. He hasn't mentioned that at all. I do say keep an eye on the downstream power levels though. Make sure it doesn't fluctuate, especially on hot or rainy days. |

| Signal varies from home to home or even splitter outputs in the same home. Isolated streets, etc may have signal issues, but it's not a region-wide thing. It's generally most dependent on one's individual install and how well the poles are wired on your street, unless a hiccup occurs at the CMTS. |

said by Tint :What exactly is the CMTS. Tech guy I just spoke with said there's an issue in my area with the CMTS which is why my speeds are all messed up. Was he a tier 3? Not many phone techs would be aware of that kind of issue, usually. To save myself some typing, I'll just link you this »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMTS |
