Central Alabama internet going out at night again

We had this problem before with the internet going out at night. It is happening again here in Alexander City Al. I am not the only one having this problem so it is not my system. When I check using tracert on a website it slows at the same exact place like before ,attga.net. What is going on now with charter. trig

@charter.com

Last week it started doing the same thing. Off this morning also and just came back on. It is strange that I can still check the email sometimes and cannot open a webpage. trig

Same problem here in the talladega area as well. Intermediate connection loss and last night it wouldn't go anywhere. I also notice with reverse dns my ip resolves to auburn now instead of leeds. Signal levels look fine, log shows some problems tho. Here's the modem log.

Charter has been painfully slow or out this morning for me in Birmingham. There is some system problem.

I'm on the phone with a tech now...... Mine started going out the night of the 5th. It wasn't to bad the 5th, but the 6th was hell. This morning I reinstalled my OS, I thought maybe this nasty virus I got the 5th might have been the cause. Took care of the virus before installing OS again. No change.

Ok.. So Charter Tech, nice guy actually, told me there are tons of reports of this problem, and a tech is coming first thing tomorrow morning to check out my house and if needed replace the modem etc.

I doubt the modem is defective. It is pretty widespread here in AC. Our system at work is doing the same exact thing. I thought maybe my modem was going out also. I got into the modem by typing 192.168.100.1 and checked the signal and it was the same as when I was on-line and the internet was fast. I check this often because I have had this problem before. I started having this problem soon after I upgraded to the 10meg upload and 1 meg download speed. Probably had nothing to do with it though. Could be because we had a bad storm here last week. I cannot remember if I had problems before or after the storm. trig

same problem still exists here as well. Slow and mostly unresponsive connection. Thunderstorms came through earlier although i highly doubt they had anything to do with the problem. I get a lot of looking up "website name etc" then cannot be found. Irritating doesn't even start to describe it

I wish a Charter tech could at least tell us the problem. It is doing the same thing this morning. I got on and then off again after a minute. trig

Out again for me in Birmingham. Does seem to be related to the storm though.

Looks to be a DNS problem, at least for me. Occasionally, pages resolve, and once the page is cached, I can get back to it without problems. Trying to hit uncached pages (resulting in a DNS query), is when I've been having the problem. Switched my DNS routings over to OpenDNS, and everything seems to be resolving properly now. Hopefully Charter gets a handle on this soon...

I was having similar issues this week and changed to the opendns dns servers and everything has been fine since. Try and see if you can do an ns lookup or hit a site by IP when this happens. Just something to try if your modem is still online.

I've been having these problems constantly for a week or longer here in Vestavia area of Birmingham. It's definately a DNS issue, although my complete service (internet and phone) went out Wednesday for about 2 hours. Would be nice if someone would fix the DNS problem as its extremely annoying.

I called the trusty charter toll free # last night and tonight and sure enough when I choose 'HSI tech help' I got the recorded "We are aware of an outage in your area..."

I too was able to download email but not a webpage, even charter homepage - seems strange. not as bad as a couple of weeks last year of 30 seconds on, 2 hrs off, if not 2 days off.

Probably why I've seen more PCL trucks rollin' in the 'hood the last few days! Saw one of their bucket trucks go past my house this morning... much more of this and DH will force me to get at least PCL HSI & phone, can't get their cable 'cause they don't do boxes and the tv we watch the most has to have a box

It was not a DNS problem on my end. I have used other DNS numbers and I had the same problem. I was told Friday at the local office here in AC that the problem was because of the phone service being installed. They could not tell me when the problem would be resolved. Since Friday the internet here has been great, no lost connections. I will wait and see. ATT&T is my next move if the problem shows up again. I have just about had it with Charter. I am sure others here feel the same way. Paying this much for internet and TV is way to high to begin with especially when it does not work very long. trig

The issue some subscribers were affected by last week was DNS related. The local IP engineers believe the that issue has been corrected.

trig, based on your posts there may have been some other issue in Alexander City. (However, I doubt it had anything to do with phone prep work.)

Regards.

Maybe some had DNS issues but not on my end. I used other DNS numbers and the internet would still go out every few minutes. That was last week. The problem seems to be resolved and the internet is fast like it should be for what I pay. I almost canceled my account last week. I appreciate what you are doing here because Charter phone tech support is almost none. I have worked with computers long enough to know when I have a defective ethernet adapter. That is what one charter tech told me last week. I tried to explain that I have many computers here and the odds on all being bad would be out of the question. Thanks charter_hsd
