PayPal (Rant)

I was wondering if anyone knows who operates this shady business.

This is my story:

I processed a transaction last Saturday night but decided to cancel it. The recipient didn't accept the payment because it was done outside business hours. However, I was unable to do that through their website as I read online that the way to do is by following these steps:

1. Click on My Account tab.
2. Click the History subtab.
3. Click on Payments sent subtab.
3. Click Cancel in the Action column of the transaction in question.
4. Click Cancel Payment.

The thing is that I have tried to open that damn Payments sent subtab and it was impossible. I tried to open that page countless times to no avail. I ended up calling my Bank on Sunday who finally were able to stop any requests from PayPal.

I called PayPal this morning and the told me that once a transaction is processed it can't be stopped. I am calling from Australia to a 1800 number and I spoke to someone located in God knows which country. Maybe India, Indonesia??

I asked the operator about the country in which he was located and he said to me:

"Sorry but I am not authorised to disclose that information."

I said to myself: Bullshit! But you are very keen to mingle with my money!!!

I had enough of PayPal and their dirty tricks. No more PayPal here for sure.

Does anyone know in which country is this e-business located?

Cheers.

PayPal is headquarted in Nebraska, although they often list their headquarters as being in California..

I decided that they were a bunch of crooks a few months ago when they decided out of the blue to ban my account and "hold" my $5,000 balance for six months..
After writing about it in my blog (which has a pretty large readership):
»success.grownupgeek.com/index.ph···-access/

and after threatening them (also in the blog), not only did i get my money, but they UNbanned me.... I dont think i'll be using them in the future..

I remove any balance I have as soon as I get it because of the horror stories I heard of them holding money. I mainly use Paypal to send money anymore.

I've read that they can "pull" money from your bank account just as easily as you can deposit it from your PayPal into your bank account.. i dont trust them..

PayPal is owned by eBay...

I've been using PayPal for many, many years and no problems here...

You processed the transaction and then changed your mind so now you call them shady.

It's not like you are handing money over to someone in person in a store..They can't process everything immediately every time someone authorizes them to pay someone and then later changes their mind.

I have no answer for your inquiry, but do question the viability and ethics of PayPal and/or their associates.
Short story: In August 2003 bought a shareware program and the author required payment via PayPal. Opened PayPal account with new credit card (first time card account was ever used). Funds were sent to software developer for program. No problem.
Shortly thereafter, the credit card account was compromised, and the account had to be closed. The only time the card was ever used was with that one PayPal transaction.
Therefore PayPal, or someone at PayPal, took advantage of and jeopardized my account. The credit card company felt it best to close the account and issue me a new card.
End of story.
So for me, no PayPal ever again.

You cannot reach that conclusion. There are other places that the number could have leaked.

I am now confused. Like where? PayPal was the only place where I entered the card number, and only one time. Wouldn't the only other place be the bank where the card account is? I can see no reason that PayPal would release my CC number to anyone since they set up a different account number for me. (Unless PayPal site did not have a secure connection.)

Certainly, the bank is another possibility. And then there might an intermediate payment processor used for these payments. And then the credit bureaus could be involved.

There are too many players to just jump to the conclusion that it was Paypal.

Yes, I changed my mind. Why not? I live in a democracy.

Besides, they didn't let me cancel the transaction because in that case THEY WOULD LOSE THE ABILITY TO CHARGE ME FOR RETRIEVING MY FUNDS.

And they are very cheeky, they wouldn't let me access the cancellation page. And God, I tried...very hard. Nah! That page wouldn't open at all. Isn't that a coincidence?

And now, for f...s sake, I have to wait 7-8 days to get my money and they will deduct $x bucks for getting it back.

You still think they are legitimate. Come on! Wake up!

And what is that stuff about diverting their services in developing countries to answer customer account related inquiries?

And the fact that the operator didn't want to disclose his location? What is this? Intelligence affairs? LOL!

No more PayPal ever!.

They are just a bunch of FREAKING THIEVES.

That's where you demonstrate that you are just ranting. The operator's location should not be relevant.

Why not?

I have the right to know why a customer located in Australia should speak to someone located in the Philippines, especially when the phone number I called is Australian.

Cheers.

That's an issue of company policy. Take it up with the CEO, not with the particular operator you spoke to.

No, you don't have the "right to know". It's completely up to PayPal to decide whether or not their phone support people should disclose their physical location.

This is yet another asinine PayPal rant. I've used PayPal for years now to process tens of thousands of dollars worth of transactions, and have yet to run into a single issue that I haven't been able to resolve with PayPal. Every dispute and problem I've run into has been handled professionally, and resolved to my satisfaction.

An Englishman wanted to become an Irishman, so he visited a doctor to find out how to go about this. "Well" said the doctor, this is a very delicate operation and there is a lot that can go wrong. I will have to remove half your brain". "That's OK" said the Englishman. "I've always wanted to be Irish and I'm prepared to take the risk".

The operation went ahead but the Englishman woke to find a look of horror on the face of the doctor. "I'm so terribly sorry!!" the doctor said. "Instead of removing half the brain, I've taken the whole brain out". The patient replied, "No worries, mate!!"
