| I want to donate a car/suv
As the title states Iam looking to donate one of my cars that I no longer need, it does drive/run it has been in a accident and the rear left side needs to be replaced, but I want to donate it, is there any recommended donation centers, Iam located in NYC
I have seen so many online but dont know which one to choose
any help appreciated

Sell it transfer tht title and donate the money.
I have a sister who donated a car and ended up with a shit load of parking tickets because the place she donated it to never did what they said they would and kept her name on the title.
And I have a friend that had something similar happen to him |

thanks for the replys everyone, I know that every donation company does not do the right thing(or tell what the exact process is) thats why I asked here at my online living room  but anyway I will give a few of these companies a call. Gungerdin  I looked at 1800charitycars and thought that was a good Idea but Iam glad you have expressed your experience with them. HardwareGeek what was the company that your sister and friend used( that company should be exposed to the world, and this is a great place to start)
I also have seen kars4dids website Kabanos but I dont need a free vacation(although that would be a great gift).
like I said the truck is hit in the rear but it still has great parts(engine, tranny, other exterior parts, and interior parts) or can just be fixed. I have put a ad on an local cragslist website but ford explorers are not in demand as of now(I guess) so I rather donate it then give it to the junk yard for $200(and they will make more then $1000 guaranteed !)

I don't know about your area specifically, but, here, St. Vincent de Paul Society does a wonderful job taking in donated cars. They give them to a program for kids at the County BOCES schools trying to learn the automotive repair trade, and the cars are then given (after fixed) to underprivileged families who are struggling without transportation. Full tax credit, fast pickup. No hassles. |

There is a catch here...
OTE: Effective January 1, 2005, new IRS rules regarding the deductibility of car donations came into effect. If your claimed car donation is in excess of $500, please review the following IRS publications for information on the rule changes:

So, like there are things you need to do to protect yourself, like verify that it really is a charity, documents if the value of the deduction is over $500 and also over $5000 (that much, the IRS would like your to get an appraisal).

I donated a car last year & had extra forms to complete (previous years didn't require any)
Yes..make sure it's reputable - and save your receipts
