They are fairly easy to set up.Have no clue about storm damage as i Always unplug phone line if there is any storms around or chance thereof when i'm not at home.Before my DSL days I got to see my answering machine get fried a few years ago(sparks flying out of it) during lightning storm.After that phone lines are unplugged first
