With my 2wire 2700 fried by storms I'm thinking of the Westell 327W instead of another 2wire. They appear to be plentiful and cheap on ebay. Is the 327 less prone to storm damage? Is it easy to set up with CT? |

| They are fairly easy to set up.Have no clue about storm damage as i Always unplug phone line if there is any storms around or chance thereof when i'm not at home. Before my DSL days I got to see my answering machine get fried a few years ago(sparks flying out of it) during lightning storm. After that phone lines are unplugged first |

| reply to GoddardCat FWIW, I am a Ctel tech, and in my area of MO, we have some nasty t-storms and lightning strikes. While I have replaced my share of blown modems, I have to say that they seem to do pretty well. I use a 327, and don't usually unplug it during storms, and haven't had any hiccups yet. Obviously ymmv, but if you can pick one up cheap, then it would be worth your money. Also, if you can find a good enough deal, it's a good idea to have a back up modem in case the one gets fried. |

| Amen to that! My primary modem is a Netopia 3380, and I have a Westell 327 as a backup.
Something to check is the grounding from your Network Interface Box to the ground. Make sure the connection is good.
While things can get zapped because of lightning, it really shouldn't happen. I've had three DSL modems at my office for several years with no issues...I've had DSL at home for a few years and have never had lightning issues here either. -- The goal of the broadcast engineer is to get all the meters on the transmitter to go as far to the right as possible!! |
