| How is the box hooked to the TV (HDMI, Component), if not HDMI what is the box set to output at? Press the yellow "a" on the remote, then press the left button a few times to get to the display tab, and then press up you should find the resolution settings there. |

| When hooked up with HDMI you can't change the output res. it should do it automatically when the source changes from 480 to 1080 or 720....are you sure you're watching the high def feed for the channel that trying to watch. Not sure what channels they are there but here in SoCal SD ch#2 is 2, HD ch#2 is 402. |

| reply to brooklynman4 just got cable hooked up as well in bk, the picture looked crappy but then you have to hit settings, look at the menu on the bottom of the screen and scroll over to something like output or video and then scroll up on the left hand vertical menu and change it to 720P or 1080I |

There is a quick set up option that defaults to 1080i and 480p that is easiest. Power Box OFF and then press "guide" and "info" on set top box. It will walk you through it from there. |

| reply to brooklynman4 For those that don't know... When TWC upgraded the OCAP boxes a couple months back, the new version of the software REMOVED the routines to automatically detect the monitor attached to the box. Now you must go into the settings menu and define the resolutions that your monitor supports.
Now, this has been a hit and miss effort for TWC cause people that bought shitty TV's (aka: low cost) didn't fully support the HDMI communication standards that told the OCAP boxes what resolutions were supported. So instead TWC went back and makes the user define what their TV can do native to the panel. |

| reply to brooklynman4 My parents just move to Zebulon, NC (just east of Raleigh) and have TW cable/phone/Internet and their HD content(along with SD content) looks absolutely horrible on their 50" LG 1080p LCD TV.
I have DirecTV and my SD looks awesome and the HD looks stunning.
I told them to call TW (they did) and a tech came out and told them that is the best they can do. I told them to cancel the service and get Dish or DirecTV.
Every station looks blurry/washed out/ and pixelated. It looks as if they are compressing the signal way too much.
I took a photo of the Food Netwok HD logo with my Blackberry so I could compare that with my cheap Olevia 37"
Food Network Logo on my Mom and Dad's LG TV: »farm4.static.flickr.com/3020/268···4d_b.jpg

I don't have TimeWarner but is it just that crappy? What should I tell my parents? It seems the TW folks think that quality is normal in the Raleigh area. |

| I think a law should be passed where if cable co's compress their signals too much they can no longer call it HD. Like they do for Ice Cream, meat, etc..
I wonder how the content providers feel about this along with the TV manufacturers?
No wonder you read stories how people by expensive LCD and Plasma TV's only to take them back to the store because they don't see a difference, or they see it as worse. |
