Cisco PIX OS 8

Does anyone kow whether it is possible to run PIX OS 8 on a 506E ?

The 506E has an extra RAM slot available. They take PC100 DIMMS, non-ECC RAM. With at least 64MB of RAM the 506E will run 7.0(x) code or less. It comes standard with 32MB RAM.

I have tried 7.1(x) and 7.2(x) and 8.0 code and they will not load those OSs unfortunately. You can actually flash the 506E to that code revision but the bootloader refuses to complete the boot process.

Of course running 7.0(x) code isn't officially supported....
