| Netgear- connected but not able to use the internets.
Warning- wireless noob..
We're having a few problems (ie, total lack of internet) with our NetGear Rangemax router and connecting with our desktop computers. I have a NetGear PCI reciever and my brother has a D-Link USB reciever.
On my computer, at current, according to the little icon on the task bar, it's not connected, but the NetGear connection "Smart" Wizard insists that it's connected to the router though not the internet. Under 'Network Connections' it seems (as far as I with limited wifi knowledge can tell) fairly arbitrary as to whether it's connected or not. Under the "Available Wireless Connections", nothing comes up and it says Windows cannot configure the connection.
I know a lot of people have been having this problem, and they're usually directed to check their DNS/IP settings. I don't know if this is it though, because I've input them multiple times- they're under the Network Connections> [My Connection] > Properties > TC/IP and via the 'Setup Wizard' under the Router's 192.168.x.x doohicky.
If I am plugged in directly to the router with an ethernet cable the internet works fine, it's just the wireless that doesn't work.
My dad's iBook and iMac both connect absolutely fine wirelessly after just entering the SSID and WEP key.
Sorry, I know this is all rather messy and kind of vague but any help or clarification would be really, really appreciated. |

| normally when you see windows cannot configure the connection, you have the actual software from the device running the connection. do you have an icon for your adapter that you can open on the desktop or system tray? are you able to disconnect and then try to reconnect, making sure the network key is accurate? for right now, is your tcp/ip properties on automatic obtain for ip and dns?

I'd suggest completely removing the 3rd-party wireless network management software that the Dlink and NetGear cards are using, and let Windows take over. |

@telstraclear.net | Hi thanks for your help, I reinstalled the netgear PCI card and settings and it is now working tho' my brothers with a motorola card isn't yet heres hoping |
