TP : well, after thinking about it, I realized that the one thing that changed with the direct modem connection was the IP.. So I released the IP and downed the modem long enough to get a new IP and once that was done I was able to get back to the two sites that I couldn't reach.. I also noticed it picked a new gateway from the one I was on before.. I still get the same 10.71.128.1 address when I tracert any site, and it times out after that.. I have no idea what that is all about...
--
Bright Futures Tutoring

[CA] Weird issue today - please advise

TP : I have two domains hosted in Florida that suddenly stopped loading the url's earlier today, and can't ftp or email either. I figured the server was down, but found out it wasn't as I investigated. Weird thing is that the two sites will load if I go straight from a computer through the modem. If I try to go to them through my router connected to the modem they won't load.. They just time out.

All other sites load quickly as usual either way. Another weird thing is if I do a traceroute to any site, whether going through the router, or straight through the modem, it goes first to this address: 10.71.128.1 and then times out from there. I queried whois on this address and it said something about being a blackhole address. This is the same result on every computer I've tried; two xp boxes and a vista 64 box and a macbook).. Interestingly, on the Mac when I did the traceroute, it resolved to the address but still went to the 10.71.128.1 address first and then carried on. The two domains still wouldn't load on the Mac though when going through the router.. Any ideas?

(I am in Irvine, btw)

--
Bright Futures Tutoring
