| Get ready - its Magic Cicada time - 17 years
Be ready. Within two weeks or so, Brood XIV of the Magicicada that has been living below the surface quietly for the past 17 years; will leave the comforts of their subterranian dwellings and swarm by the billions into the trees of NYC, LI and northern NJ. Their goal? Screaming at the top of their lungs while they mate and lay eggs. The noise can be deafening.
The big question is if they still exist in such numbers. Reports of sightings in Cape Cod, Pennsylvania, and Long Island are just starting. Don't worry - they can't hurt you, except to ruin your sleep.

Yup, the cicadas are in Long Beach! Yep, they're here as of this past weekend in Syosset and Plainview. I was outside grilling on Saturday night drinking the remaining portion of a six pack, and I heard this odd buzzing. Familiar, yet strange. I knew I hadn't had enough to start the auditory hallucinatons, so I thought for a minute, and sure enough...they are back.
Although I remember them being much, much louder. Perhaps there isn't such a big batch of them this year, or their predator enemies are gobbling more of them up. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin
