| Shaw - Ping extremely high?
I used Shaw's speedtest, and it took a really long time to ping... 3051ms.
I tried the test because I noticed it took about 10 to 15 seconds to load an uncached page, and I wanted to know evidence if I was going to bitch at them.
HTTP downloads (uncapped, not rapidshare etc.) reach the cap of 600kb/s.
Torrents can get as high as 300kb/s, although rare.
Now, that's odd, right? Anyone have any idea why this could be happening? |

Maybe there is something wrong with the line - call Shaw and ask them to look. Maybe there is something wrong and they will book you a service call. Don't just call and bitch though - everybody's sooo smart and knows "it's Shaw's fault". Maybe let them know that there's a problem before complaining. |

| reply to Lir Noticed high pings for the last week as well. Called Shaw and explained and the tech tried to convince me that it's because websites are busy. Google homepage? Ya right -- 100ms ping times to google.ca is about 13x higher than average. Right now, a tracert to shaw.ca is timing out 100% packet loss.
I'm calling them again and won't take a bored tech's excuses that the "internet is busy right now." |

| i dont know how you get "13x higher" with 100ms ping the avg ping time to Google is 64 to 84ms (ish) so maybe 2x as high if you take some of the best pings to Google. 100ms is a little high but not overly, something to complain about... dont think so... now if you were getting 200 or 500ms pings to google, maybe. |
