Desktop wireless slow, laptop fine?

I have a desktop computer and it has a super slow download. But my laptop thats only a few feet away gets full speed? I scanned the desktop for virus, installed a new wireless adapter, ran winsock fix and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Hmmm i dont think that helped. For some reason my laptop connects at 36-54mbps but my desktop ranges from 1 to 18 at the most. I don't understand this cause the laptop is literally only 2 feet away from the desktop.

So why did you leave out that tidbit from your first post?

Most laptops have superior built-in dual antennas with diversity that can deal with multipath. Most desktops have their one lousy antenna stuck behind a bunch of metal. Get a better antenna with a few feet of coax so that you can better locate it or get a USB adapter with a USB extension.

Same thing, only different.

Cable TV coax is for lower frequencies and is 75 ohm.
