This page contains an index to a lot of password recovery procedures for Cisco equipment.

As for configuration, what do you want to do?

If you are studying for CCNA, there should be a clearly defined course of learning as per your study material, so work your way through that.

For anything else, you can use Google to try and find examples or have a look at the Cisco forum FaQ for some guides, and if you get stuck trying to configure something, we're here to help.

As for obtaining new software for it, the 2600's have been EoL for a long time, and as such you cant buy service contracts for them any more. There are some "not so legal" ways to obtain more recent images, but I cant give you any specifics.

The latest IOS version for the 2600's is up around 12.3(22) or so, but you probably wont find a 12.4 version which is what the latest CCNA exam assumes you have been studying with IIRC.

I also strongly recommend against using HyperTerminal. It is a very appalling piece of software. Look for a program called PuTTY (its free to download). It is a much better program.

I'm just curious about that particular issue, as someone who cares for a fair amount of EOL gear. If you can't buy it, and your other option is to steal it, what do you do?

What's Cisco's stance on EOL stuff and upgrading software?
What do you personally think about the issue?
