I thought you guys were kidding....

....about the 4:00 est throttle down but I now have become the latest victim. Why? I suspect I am being punished. You see, I had the good fortune to have to restore 2 computers at the same time. What are the odds? You can just imagine how many downloads and updates that took.

I never got fapped because I would pause if I hit the 40% hnfmon mark. I also downloaded the really big stuff during the fap free time. All in all it took about 3 days of downloading.
Seems to me I did all the right things.

I only caught on because all of a sudden it went to a crawl. Watched like a hawk since then and it's consistent. The funny thing is that at the same time my speeds went up when they turned it back on. My plan would do about 870 for the first month and 700 consistent thereafter. Not that it was a surprise. I just tested it and it is spot on the 4:00 timeline. Went from 890 to 94 in a blink and stayed there.

Anyway, I have solid proof from their own tester. I sent a terse email to them about what my contract says as well as CCd my congressman and attorney general. Will it do any good? Doubtful in the short term.

I am really sorry they have so much trouble staying afloat that they have to steal from a 5 year customer.

The irritating part of their shenanigans is that this occurs in the middle of my work day. 3:00 CST.

I believe you all now.

First....I don't work for or sell HughesNet consumer service
Second...What did you find in their contract that compelled you to send a terse letter?
Third.....you are trying to do business on a lightweight consumer satellite internet platform? Shame on you!
Lastly...HughesNet is actually earning a fairly decent profit this year. A five year user should know better than most what to expect from Hughes....I really don't get your post at all!

Listen, Climb down off your high horse. Thousands do biz everyday on the internet. Email is biz. Paying your billis is biz. Heck, I barely use up 30% of my bucket on an average day. Would you have felt better if I said I did browsing for 12 hours a day. The contract says nothing about being throttled back except during FAP. That's the way I read it. Why do you not grasp this? I have no problem with FAP. I understand it.
What this throttling says to me is that I am not allowed to use my contracted 375 megs in a 24 hour period. It's that simple. FWIW I used about 29% today and BING down it goes. Does that sound right to you? Wait until it's your turn.

I decided to stay up late enough to see about the other end of this deal.

Central Std Time
07/04/08
10:58pm 91/33
11:00pm 936/196

Simply incredible. Certainly proves out to me what others have been seeing.

Wrong way to do it--you should be storing updates somewhere so you don't have to download them for each/every computer every time!

It's deliberate, no doubt.

I won't bore everyone with the future tests until it gets fixed.

Thanks

What you need to do is write down all the KB12345 numbers on windows update. Then you need to get Alcohol 120% and rip your windows XP Disk.

Intergated it SP2 and put all the hotfix's on a program thats called nlite.

It will keep you away or quicker to get Windows update over with.

also be smart and wise about putting things that contents spyware.

I haven't format since Vista came out becasue I use tune-up 1-click maintence and Norton Anti Virus, and Windows Update. So Far keeps the format away from me.

but anyways for god shakes disable Automatic Updates and go to Windows update and hit custom and do half and half daily or set your damn automatic updates to 3am only.

YOU DONT HAVE TO UPDATE ALL IN ONE DAY!!!!!!!

I swear. why people bitch about Windows Update FAPing them? They need to learn how to update their CD's

Binary,
Did you actually read what this thread was about? I can tell you that it's not about FAP. I know fap, I understand fap. I never come close to fap.

I appreciate the advice about backups but I also know all the tricks of backups, etc, etc. but there are still plenty of updates that take place.

I could leave the modem unhooked, hook it up just before 3:00 cst and watch it drop from 900 to 90 each day and stay that way until 11:00.

Until you see this happen as I and others have you don't believe it. I didn't for the longest time.
