more HD

When will east central Pa see Animal Planet and CNN in HD? Also will we see ESPN CLassic anytime soon?

ESPN Classic is on Channel 265. How do you not have it, were on sister systems (Rdg/Potts/Leb).

As far as Animal planet, when they realize that they can mux it with HD Theater which we already have, along with History HD, all available to them on AMC18 at 105 degrees W. Transponder 8, Horizontal Polarity, Symbol rate: 29270 FEC: 3/4 Digicipher II SID's 10, 11, 12.

Possibly a little more work required for CNN HD.

I'm only seeing channels 87 and 88 available. 97 isn't used for QAM, but it's being used for QPSK Motorola OOB traffic. Silly mistake, wonder what the engineer who picked that frequency is thinking now? Should of picked 75.25 MHz when designing the system years ago. DOH! Now it's a little late. There's likely some older DCT-2000's out in the field configured with fixed 104.2 OOB tuners.

They were supposed to move local channel 21 to digital only in Reading back in mid Feb. That fell through somewhere, because to this day Ch 21 is still available in analog, and I haven't seen any explanation in the paper as to why they reneged on that promise.

I'm a little worried as to the future of HD and DOCSIS 3.0 due to the lack of room available. Only 12 MHz of space left will only get us 6 more HD's. They better start to act quickly and come up with a long term bandwidth plan. 6 new HD's would put us at 36 HD total. Not good enough considering Service Electric has 40 now, and 20 more on the way. Cablevision will have 60, Verizon is expanding now, so is Time Warner, DirecTV, Dish Network ie) every one but Comcast. Remember analog migrations require at least a 30 day notice and FCC approval, so it's not like they could explode with new HD anytime soon. I know I haven't seen any migrations announced.

Hopefully they are successful running a few QAM's past the top edge (CH 118 at the moment). I know some other 750 MHz systems run 64QAM on Ch 119-121. Sure net bandwidth isn't as good with 64QAM, but 3 QAMs of 8 SD's would allow them to migrate SD digital's from other frequencies to make room for more HD in the long run. There using heavy duty feeder and good quality SA line gear in this system. From what I can tell it's a Node>Trunk and Trunk amps> Bridger Amps> LE > Tap architecture. (Node+3 perhaps?) Maybe the other systems pushing 771 MHz+ on 750 MHz actives are only running Node+1 or Node+2. That's a little more fiber deep. Hopefully an RF pro chimes in here and explains that a little further.

Finally, I hope there's no awful long term contracts (Network and/or franchise) regarding analog carriage of Halmark, Discovery Health, EWTN/ShopNBC Share, MSNBC, Cartoon, C-SPAN2, SciFi, truTV, and Travel (just to name a few that are digital only in other markets). Contracts suck period. Nothing worse then being STUCK in something that you legally cannot get out of.

I for one would rather see an updated guide that doesn't freeze or queue commands on the DVR. It would be nice if I could channel surf using the Up and Down buttons like on an SA system. Push Ch UP too fast on my box and it will freeze up on you, queue commands, then at a random moment unfreeze and go out of control. Once they get the guide fixed, then perhaps it can handle more HD channels.

Sure the more HD the merrier... I'm happy with the current lineup. Sure TWC HD, History HD, Animal Planet HD, FX HD, Bravo HD, Speed HD would all be nice, but I have a feeling I might move to Service Electric Cable territory before Comcast ever carries them. SECV has all of that good stuff and more on the way.

Oh take a look at EngagetHD. Here's a link filtered with posts belonging to the Cable category. Sickening seeing how many providers are adding more and more, except Comcast. A few Comcast ad's are for systems just catching up with us!

And Comcast said they want to go all digital in 20% of it's markets by the end of the year? Do you know how HUGE Comcast is?!!!! 20% is a handful in the gigantic footprint of Comcast. Still an impressive feat considering their size, but odds for our area to be in that 20%? I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Hey Cypher, 4 years ago I moved from Amity Twp where I had Service Electric,to Muhlenberg Twp and Comcast thinking it was a step up in cable and internet service. Considering what Service Electric now offers vs Comcast, I guess the jokes on me!

Amity Twp is nice. I'm thinking of moving down that way Further in Exeter, Amity, Douglassville. I'm starting a new job on Monday in Pottstown, so it would be much closer to work.

Even if Comcast does find a way to offer more HD, the cost is going to be passed on down the line to the consumer. Personally, living in a apartment complex that doesn't allow anything other than Comcast I feel sick having to pay them every month for the sub standard over priced service they deliver.

The HD is over compressed & way behind in channel count, prices continue to rise. As mentioned above the equipment doesn't work correctly, and you have to RENT IT FROM THEM!

And while I am on the soap box, how freaking hard would it be to keep channels together that SHOULD BE kept together? Has anyone ever tried to flip from ESPN to ESPN news?! Its about 35 channels away! Seriously, the channel listing in Philly is the most disorganized mess you could design. Comcast should be ashamed!

Sports Channels with Sports Channels
News Channels with News Channels
Locals with Locals
Superstation's with Superstation's (TBS/TNT/USA/FX/Spike)
blah..blah..blah..

And before anyone jumps on me, yes...I am a satellite fanboy. But I could be persuaded to think differently if they could fix these issues....espically when I am paying $100+ a month...

I can't be the only one who has noticed these things.

I've noticed as well.

Look at Verizon's lineup, and how organized it is. That's what Comcast should do.

It's on analog at a high frequency for a quick visual signal quality check. They can look how clear channel 2 is for the low band, channel 61 or so for the mid, and then they can check the top edge on ch 120. They will remove it if they need to.

After upgrades and systems were balanced well, many systems removed a top analog channel for visual measurement. Now they solely rely on having a meter to read the highest broadcasting QAM or continuous wave test carrier at band edge. I've seen spectrum analyzers in the 116~120 range, duplicates of religious programming, colorbars, clear black video, and in your case Weatherscan up that high.

We've had Wscan at 120 here too for a long time, I think most Philly systems have it. The picture quality looks great on it, I know ch120 is out past 750mhz. They don't push past that, 120 is the highest, they have 256QAM right up to and including ch119.

It's funny to see any old VCR or my 18 year old bedroom TV actually be able to tune to Ch 120.

Harrisburg had Weatherscan on analog channel 117 for a long time, but sometime over the last 6 months or so, it left us.
