Possible to do outlet wiring installation yourself ?

Hi,

In the case where I want to change/add an outlet for my telus tv, can I just do the wiring myself? Does telus offer a manual for this? I cant imagine it is that hard if we have clear instructions. If anyone knows, please post it!

Thanks!

Get yourself some cat5e cable, with ends already terminated (100ft can be had for as little as $25)

Pull it to where you want it (fishtape is $25 at home depot), get a low voltage wall outlet and a rj-45 wallplate or a blank + keystone jack. Cut off the terminated end at the wall and use the supplied punch down tool and follow the color code on the back of the keystone jack. Be sure to match what your cable is terminated as (google t568 and mind your A and B standards). Trim the ends and close up the wall plate and finish up by attaching the other end of the cable to the switch attached to the adsl modem or the DMZ port on your 2wire (I assume the DMZ is how the TTV gets its IP).

The TTV service to the RJ45 jacks, comes via the 2 wire router. Get a honking ethernet cable and run it from the 2 wire to wherever you want it.

I was told to use just enough length. Can't remember the reasoning for it. For example if the distance is 45ft, use 50 ft instead of 100ft.

Only thing I know of closest to a wiring guide is on Telus' site:
