| [HSI] Having to release and renew ip
About 2 or 3 weeks ago we had an outage. A tech that visits these forums said they were doing upgrades. Well since the upgrades my latencies have been higher than normal and they fluctuate up and down. The main thing is that when I get home from work and turn on my pc I have to release and renew my ip for my internet to work. Both of these issues started after the upgrades. My upstream and downstream signals are fine. Does anyone have these problems or know what to do? |

Better yet...does your IP (that you're releasing/renewing) come from your ROUTER or directly from your modem? |

| It comes directly from my modem. I also use Skype and ever since the "upgrades" the voice quality is terrible.
Things wouldn't be bad if the latency remained constant. Using a latency monitor, my latency starts out higher than it use to be and teeters up and down between 150ms and 400ms. If it does stay constant that only lasts 30-45 seconds. |

| reply to RDRobertson run a tracert out to a known site, like google. check the hops along the way, and see where you see slow response times, anything over 200ms. then go to dnsstuff.com, and look up the IP's at the slow hops. If its a charter server, then its an issue that charter has the ability to fix (though, for a residential account, it could be tough to get escalated), but if its past the 3rd hop, its about 95% chance its outside the charter network, and out of the hand of anyone at charter. |
