anon : Won't putting all your cards in one box cause more self-interference then putting all 3 of your radio cards in different enclosures?

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, but even if you use the 20 MHz spacing between the available 2.4 GHz freqs there's still some 'bleed-over' from the center frequency... which will cause some self-interference from having all the cards in one box. I know the Ubiquiti cards to be high-quality radios, and maybe they are better than other cards at filtering out 'bleed-over', but I am still skeptical of putting everyting in one box... that and if something blows up, all your sectors will be down.

dusty1300 : I'm not 100% sure about the certification. I have seen quite a few conflicting messages in different forums about this. From what I can tell, one of the radios is certified, and if I use it within the guidelines of what antennas it was certified with, I can put a fcc label on the outside of the box and be ok. Maybe I'm way off on this. I'm still trying to figure it out. Here is the latest thing I read:

" Directly from the FCC:

Inquiry:
I am trying to fully understand the procedures for getting a radio device certified for used as a registered base station under the new 3650-3700 rules. I know this device is only allowed to operate in the lower 25mhz. The device in question is fcc id: SWX-XR3B. What procedures do I need to take, to allow me to use this in a single board computer, as a Access Point (Base station)? SBC: Routerboard 333 »routerboard.com/pdf/rb333b.pdf Radio Device: »ubnt.com/products/xr3.php Thanks, Kyle Duren

Response:
Since the device is already certified, it can be installed into a final basestation without further approval, as long as the FCCID label is attached on the outside of the final product. However, if your company wishes to obtain it's own FCC number for the final product, then you must apply for an original FCCID."

As for frequencies in use, the utility company is using the entire 2.4 band vertical and some 5.8. I'm using some of it horizontal, and numerous cell providers are using 5.8 for backhauls. If I do a spectrum analysis just about anywhere in town, there are no open 5 gig stuff at all. 5.4 would work, but I saw some radar and am leary of it going offline while it scans. I saw it do this at 5.3 with a new tranzeo before. I don't think the 5.4 stuff will penetrate trees very well either. 3650 won't be great, but will be better than 5 gig.

Tom

I also keep a brand new setup at each tower site pre-configured in an enclosure, so if there is a problem I go up and change out the whole unit and then do my troubleshooting at the shop.
