| July 4th, Place(s) to go? Long Island City vs Greenpoint.
Hello there all,
I'm trying to make some plans now for July 4th, so therefore I'm looking for a decent place to take my g/f and her two sisters.
I found a few places googling, but before going on I need to mention I will be going by car, if its not in Greenpoint. Makes the transport much easier and faster to get myself and her home. I'm not worried much about parking since you can always find something.
Here it comes; (the two im debating between) Gantry State Plaza Park in Long Island city Greenpoint Docks.
(Additional places others might want to consider) -------------------------------- Empire Fulton Ferry State Park Louis Valentino, Jr. Park at Pier 39
Cna you guys/gals throw out some ideas and list your opinions on what you think the best place is?
EDIT: * Changed title for two places im most considering. * Edited context to make it more clear. |

| reply to Coderedpl I'd go to greenpoint. one tip for you; when the fireworks end, the cops form lines around the subways and moderate how many they let go underground, so it can take a good half hour just to get down to the subway. so take your friends to a nice bar or restaurant in the area to wait out the crowds leaving, and then be on your way. |

Thats where I live lol, so subway is not a problem for me, as long as the people dont stack in front of my house which is near the subway entrance.
I'm just wondering which street to use by the water since you can go on Huron, India or Java.
But then would it be nice enough to take a gf to? I mean if you compare LIC to GreenPoint, LIC is much nicer and cleanER.
I'm going LIC VS Greenpoint now. |

| LIC is definitely nicer with more families with kids, yuppies, and nearby restaurants, but you see all the barges off in the distance to your South, so the view is disappointing. In Greenpoint you are right in the middle of it all, with NYC in the background. personally, I don't think your GF will mind a rougher spot for a better view - unless she's an out of towner.
as for what street to go down; come on, Code - you LIVE there. go to a Laundromat or something and ask the natives then report back here
whereever you go is very safe, because the city wastes millons on tons of cops and park rangers crawling up everyone's butt, keeping anyone from drinking in public. |

| reply to Coderedpl I haven't watched the 7/4 fireworks since they moved them upriver several years ago. The former location centered about lower Manhattan was much more convenient for much of Brooklyn's residents, including myself. -- Confusion Will Be My Epitaph |

| reply to PCInTech They moved it this year 10 blocks further south, with the southern tip of the display corresponding to approximately E. 10th St. The display was originally centered south of the bridges, giving the Brooklyn Hts. promenade a perfect view, now its one of the peripheral views. Edit: I was unaware until this morning that Macy's added a fireworks barge back near the South Street Seaport - making the Heights Promenade a prime viewing location once again. | reply to Coderedpl Our perch today was at my dad's jobsite right near the LIRR train station by the Midtown Tunnel.
They're rebuilding the fan plant for the train tunnel there, so we just set up camp on the roof of the building.
