Looking to Have My House Wired With CAT6

As the title says, we're moving into our new house in about a week, and I'd like to have a few rooms wired with CAT6 cabling.

Can anyone recommend any companies/contractors who do this?

Thanks

Any electrician can do pull the wire if you can do the connections yourself then you are good to go.

You did not say where you are located.

My location is right in my info, but I'm in Oakville.

And yep, I do know how to crimp the terminals on to a network cable.

Absolutely NOT! Some != "Any".

Many electricians have no clue what they're doing as far as voice/data cabling goes. Every new house I've seen in the past three years had Cat 5e stapled to studs because they were done by the builders' electricians.

In a residential environment, the chief problem being aesthetics, it might not be so easy or even possible to do what you want to do, once the drywall is up, if you're moving into a new house and not renovating.

I had this done myself for my new home. Had 3 data drops run from various rooms to my punch panel in the basement, cost me $30.00 / drop. Mind you that was a special price since my employer uses this company for all our work cabling.

Our builder wanted, ready for this... $250/drop, not home run, aka just a cable hanging in the basement, and only roughed in with no jack plates or anything. Or $300/drop fully finished.

Not surprised. "Not home run" = useless. And it would have been an awful job too.

You'll find alot of contractors shy away from residential jobs... They tend to be a pain in the ass to do neatly, espcially after the drywall's up - and if you're moving in about a week, it'll be up and finished.

Look in the phonebook under "Interconnect" - or check with local electricians, if they do data work.

Good luck.

Not only that you are a little late on getting it wired. This should have been done at rough-in time, same time the rough-in electrical took place.

Had mine done by the same company that did my surroud sound, satelite wiring and security systems. At rough-in time.

Good Luck

Well we're moving into a pre-owned home, so having it done during the rough-in wasn't much of an option for us :P

sorry you did say "new house" so I assumed. Either way installers can fish that wire. It's so much nicer when it's installed properly.

Good Luck

I did my house ( 60 years old) a couple years ago. It was a unfinished basement and it wasnt to bad getting up through the walls. I put 8 drops in, and the only hole's I had were the drywall rectangle for my low voltage box.

All I needed was a fish tape, string, beer and a Saterday afternoon.

Me and a Pal did his house a month later and he had a drop ceiling, it wasnt that much harder.

You save ALOT of money doing it yourself and it really is easy work ..... as long as you dont have to get into much drywall repair that is.

I did the wiring in our 4300 sq ft house, in total I have 80 different wires (about 50 CAT 6 and 30 RG-6), the best quote I got was $45 per run, I ended up saving thousands of dollars by doing it myself (before the dry wall was up).

Only regret was using copper coated steal for the RG-6, an all copper center would be better but it's much more expansive at $400 per 1000 sq ft.
