Hi All,
I have a couple questions here. First, it has been raining here in PA quite a bit in the last few weeks. On Sunday we have a severe storm with losts of heavy rain, high winds, etc. After the storm my connection pretty much crapped out completly. I have a Sprint Yagi antenna on the roof and about 20ft of cable running into the house to a Novatel U727 which is plugged into an MBR1000 router. So I checked out the antenna on the roof, everything seems fine there. No sign of damage, same for the cabling, the modem, and the router. I took the modem out of the router and plugged it directly into my laptop and walked down the road a few hundred yards towards the tower to where I can get a signal without the need for an external antenna. I was able to get a signal and connect with no issue. I went back to the house and plugged my modem back into the antenna, but still had it directly in the laptop and I got no signal. For reference, before the storm I would get about a 900kbs download and 300kbs upload. The connection would sit around -82dBm. Anyone have any idea what gives? Is there a way to isolate the problem? All of my equipment is less than 2 months old.
Off topic, does anyone know anything about 3G fixed wireless? This SMBB just isn't working out that great for me.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, atd5000 You better check your coax connectors for moisture. Unless you have them waterproofed the coax will soak up water like a sponge. IMO your problem is your equipment and not the tower given you can plug the modem in and it works when you get close enough to pick up the signal. It's rare that the tower is at fault. |

| 3G fixed wireless is primarily geared toward business/commercial applications as far I know, with Accel Networks being the largest player. They are MVNO's (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) that piggyback off of the major telcos like Sprint, Verizon, etc. They are used mainly for point of purchase sales at retail locations that have no terrestrial connections available. Although they have a SLA with customers and guaranteed up time, unlimited data, it is almost twice the cost of a cellco plan. Coverage is dependent on the carrier towers in your area. That is what I know. I could be wrong, someone will correct me if I am. -- * evdotips.blogspot.com * |
