| how to know if we are entitled for a download?

I am considering downloading the JEC1 release of the operating system for my new Aironet 1100 access point, it seems that JEA, JEB and JEC are all releases of the same IOS train; but I want to make sure I am entitled to get an updated image for my access point.
Upgrading the Cisco 877 was easy: I sent an email to Cisco Systems and they kindly provided a new IOS release to avoid the Secure Shell server security problems. However, I have some concerns about upgrading IOS on the Aironet. From this security report:

it seems that an upgrade is advisable. I have access with a guest account to most Aironet IOS releases (there are some for a few access points -the most recent ones- that are locked). However, before downloading the image I see a license that says on its first clause that "Cisco will charge for any download the user is not entitled to get."
How can I know if I am allowed to download an IOS release for these access points? I am entitled to download these images (except the ones that are locked)? For any access point? I am certainly tempted to download some IOS images for the 1100 just to make sure it is up to date not only for security reasons but also to increase reliability, but need to know I can do it legally.
I see that there are some software packages (e.g. most Aironet IOS images and the Cisco SDM) that seem available for free. But I want to make sure before making a mistake... by the way, SDM is just an example that comes to mind, I really love the IOS cli and will not change it. I choosed Cisco for the powerful IOS command-line and it is required to set up a tunnel to SixXS! 
To be honest, I see no official documents were it says that we can freely download IOS images for the Aironet access points. | |

| The way I believe it works is that as long as you have a current and valid SMARTnet contract, you are entitled to download any image within the same feature set.
For example, if you have a license for Advanced IP, it doesnt matter what version, train, etc, you are entitled to download an image as long as it is the Advanced IP feature set.
But obviously you couldnt download something like Advanced Enterprise, even though it may be exactly the same version/revision/train.
Cisco does also occasionally make images available for free to customers to address critical security issues, as you already seem aware. | |

Thank you very much for this information. I was a bit confused because, as a difference with the Cisco 877 I have here, the Aironet images are available to download with a standard guest account (at least most of them). It is just not possible for the 870 series routers.
I would like to know if I am entitled to download the JEC1 image for the Aironet 1100 (same features set, of course). I have no SMARTnet contract, but from the link I provided in the first post, there is a security problem related with the current image on this access point.
When I upgraded the IOS image on the 877 all was easier; the security report gave instructions to asking Cisco about an upgrade in the case we have no maintenance contract (I suppose that this offer is only valid on the first year after buying a product, but this 877 was adquired one week ago so no problems here). However, the Aironet security report provides no information about who is entitled to download this image... | |
