I could be wrong but a reset should work, If I understand correctly the box has to talk back to cox while booting up to authorize itself get any applicable updates if necessary etc. |

We try to "hit" every set top at least once every 30 days. With 170,000 of them on the plant, it would be impossible to do every night. A reboot typically will not fix whatever caused that box to lose it's authorization on the network.

Non-payment Code changes (addition/change of services in billing) New channels and features Quality control (missed codes in billing) Sometimes you get a box that "walks" away from the head-end for whatever reason, and it needs to have it's privledges revoked.
I'm sure there are a few others that our billing system administrators could come up with, but those are the biggies. The boxes are also pretty autonomous if there is a serious failure, so keeping them up-to-date is just one more way they can continute to operate at a minimal level without help from the billing interface or the DNCS. |
