AT&T sales came to my door on 6/11. I signed a contract that same day for U-Verse service (total package). Install scheduled and performed yesterday (6/29). All phone, internet and TV connections were severed! He couldn't get a connection. Engineer came out 6/30 and was here for 4 hours when he told us "they shouldn't have sold you the service to begin with. You're too far away to receive a good signal."
Calls to SE Michigan produced nothing; "Well, you can't get service, the engineer is the final say, so we can put you on a list for hookup when it's available in your area." They haven't a clue as to when that's going to be.
Called corporate in TX and told them the issue. They contacted SE Michigan (Roseville) and told them to do what has to be done to get us connected. SE Tech called me back and said that corporate cannot dictate to them what to do becuase they "don't know our configuration..." We are going to persue a breach suit against AT&T stiulating they provide us with the basis internet, TV and telephone service that they disconnected and that they provide that service to us, free of charge, until U-Verse is connected.
Bottom Line: BEFORE you sign the agreement, ensure they live up to their committment to come out and test the lines BEFORE the install date. Our sales rep told us that this had already been done and produced a paper signifying that fact..... Not fact, FICTION!
I have 3 neighbors who are further away than I and am going to warn them about this issue and suggest they cancel their contacts before they fall into the same trap as I.
Corporate's on the phone....gotta go! |

What do you mean "all phone, Internet, and TV connections were severed"? You mean you had existing service and they disconnected it? What service did you have? Did you cancel it or did they disable it during the install?
What do you mean you "signed a contract"? U-verse does not do contracts. Maybe you signed an order?
Did you actually lay out any money in advance? That is also not normal.
Unless they actually disabled an active service during their install efforts, I think you have no recourse at all. Any of the U-verse install efforts are caveated, they don't guarantee results.
I would think the most you are entitled to is to put your wiring back the way it was before they started. |

| reply to MikeEileen Couple of things here:
1) Who severed "All phone, internet and TV connections"? If these were via other providers, then more fool you for cancelling service before the new one was proven up and running. If via AT&T (phone and internet), then yes, they shouldn't leave you high and dry and should have at least put you back to where you were.
2) How are you online now? You show up as via comcast.net. |

| reply to MikeEileen That and the LFO was correct, the corporate office can get on the phone with the engineers all they want, but if your loop is too long then aside from running a new line (doubt it) theres not much to be had. If its an issue with the line due to bridge taps, faulty connections, bad splices then theres things that can be done. So beyond that its just pissing into the wind.
I will give you this though, the Door to Door reps do have a nasty habit of bending the truth to make a sale and they dont do any prequalifications it would seem for potential customers. They know the vrad locations and they fan out in a circle and just hammer residents within "reach" regardless.
Also, just FYI, your neighbors may not be on the same equipment or pair bundle as you so im sure 9 out of 10 dentists will agree that they might be able to get the service whereas you cant. Seen that alot of times as well.

| reply to MikeEileen while I agree I think the cost of reconnecting you, if any, to previous providers be covered and whatever you paid ATT reimbursed, to claim that they should now pay for all your services until they expand the network out to you is pushing it. But I guess it all stems from that same consumer mentality, "I've been inconvenienced and setting it right isn't enough, I want everything under sun as well". Personally I find it a bit disgusting. -- Passive Aggressive Predator Posing As A Potted Plant |

| Amen to the disgusting. Americans in general are basically spoiled and we want everything handed to us on a silver platter. Watch out if you make us wait for something because we will complain until we drive operating costs up and then complain even more when services go up as a result. |

| reply to MikeEileen I do believe it. Why?
Well, number one: Sales agents lie. Who cares if the service will work or not just as long as they get their cut.
Number two? It was a fucking door to door salesman. Why did you even invite that garbage into your house for?
And three. DSL blows unless you're next door to the CO, and even then it isn't all that desirable.
What I don't believe however, is how people can be so god damn stupid, and then later cry about how they got ripped off. |

| reply to MikeEileen AT&T sucks MAJOR camel butt. They have the worse customer service on the planet. If you're a religious moron they are the "devil".
The Dot heads in customer service tried to get me to create a SECOND account to cancel my only account! I told the guy he was F'in nuts. Ask for a supervisor. Waited 15 minutes, got one and she fixed it.

| reply to NormanS Pretty sure it does.
Distance from the CO plays a large part in max speeds you can obtain.
Thus, with everyone being so close, those countries can make advancements that won't be available anywhere else.
Also, Tommyastro. If you're so much better than the "Dot Heads" in customer support. Why exactly did you call them in the first place? Genious like you should have been able to solve your own issues. |

Why exactly did you call them in the first place? Genious like you should have been able to solve your own issues. Because, no matter how good you may be with computers and networking, there are some things you just aren't going to be able to do. Your ISP isn't exactly going to allow just anyone to say, walk into their data center and reboot a router, or even open one of their lovely green boxes that litter your neighborhood, let alone do anything with it. Nor are they going to let you log into their network remotely to make changes to your account--that has to be done over the phone or through the website assuming their website offers such features.
So, yeah, even the geekiest of geeks will have to call a drone once in a while, if for no other reason than to subscribe and later cancel. But that's just assuming too perfect a world. -- Think outside the fox...Seamonkey |

However, the U.S. telcos have been pushing DSLAMs closer to the customers than COs.
The size of the nation has nothing to do with the speed of DSL. It does affect the cost of deployment, but that is another matter, entirely. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
