| Network USB Hub for NAS
The process continues in the weaning myself from a desktop based network to purely being notebook/wireless.
I had already got both my printers to be networked...one, a HP AIO, already was networked, and I put my older B&W laser on a cheap (but effective) print server...but I still was connecting my external drive (Seagate FreeAgent 500gb) via USB 2.0...
Rather than shelling out for a new NAS, I opted to go with a Belkin Network USB Hub. A side benefit is that it can also do duty as a print server, works with Ipods, thumb drives, memory cards, etc. (has 5 USB ports) Set up was very painless, and so far, it works rather well with my FreeAgent external.
I am curious as to whether anyone else here has tried this, and what their results have been? -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? | | ooSillyoo Not The Brightest Bulb In The Pack Premium join:2004-01-13 Lawrenceville, GA clubs: | I haven't tried one yet but I've looked at it a few times to network some USB webcams I have. A high-speed/res webcam may be too much for the interface (in fact, Belkin does warn about this), however, I have heard folks with standard web cams who claim it can handle them all right.
It is not exactly a high speed solution, for example, throughput times on my USB 2.0 external drive are slower than a direct USB connection to the computer, but for file back up and such, or watching a video, it is sufficient. -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? | |
