AT&T U-Verse in City of Chicago

Hi!

I was wondering if anybody has heard of a status update on the deployment of uverse in Chicago. I have seen just about every suburb out there in where it's available to them. I live in the city and was just wondering if anybody has heard anything...

Thanks!

How does never work for you?

lol. I was just kidding, but it seems like that. I live 1/2 block from a CO in a very high concentration area (wrigleyville) and you'd think they would have started implementing it here. No sign of VRADs or work towards getting it in...I think every suburb in the metro area will get it before Chicago.

ATT: Feel free to prove me wrong

I don't know about "every suburb out there in where it's available to them". A lot of them are getting the equipment installed but it could be months or even years before they go live.

They installed on 3 houses down from me and from my investigation (with Dennis See Profile's help). It's supposed to go live in September. I'll believe it when I see it though.

There's a pin just 6 miles away in La Grange but I'm within the city limits (just SW of Midway). Oh well I've lived two years without TV service so I guess I can wait a while more =/

I live in the Midway area, and for the past 3 weeks or so, i have seen crews of AT&T Technicians working away on 4 big boxes sitting on concrete slabs in the public way in my neighborhood. I was hesitant to ask them what they were doing but finally i did. The technician said they were installing the U-Verse equipment and the service should be up and running within the end of the month. I will update within a couple of weeks and see if he was right, i sure hope so!

I'm guessing it has to do mostly with Midway Airport because AT&T has only rolled out U-Verse in the outskirts of Chicago and surrounding suburbs. On my behalf, I'm not too far from Lincolnwood/Skokie on the N. Side and been reading reports in the neighborhood newspaper about how "ugly" they look. "Eyesore" I'm hoping my immediate area will be included to give a kick in the butt to Comcast.

Yea, you have a point there. And they really do look ugly, i wouldn't like the equipment in front of my house

I don't understand why they don't put them in the alley's.
That's where all the poles are anyway.

Just walk around or drive around until you see a V-Rad within 6000 to 10000 feet. You will know =D

Yea, they are pretty big to try to put in an Alley or on a pole. The ones I saw has 2 big boxes next to each other on top of a concrete slab. Two of these setups within 3 blocks on the same street. The fact that i wouldn't be able to see my parked car because of the equipment would irritate me.

Whoa where did you see the VRAD boxes near Midway? I live near 63rd/Narragansett and have been waiting for AT&T to get off their asses and gimme some uverse love ever since I moved to Chicago two years ago! Hell I'd love a VRAD right outside my apartment... Faster speeds for me!

It's not going to matter much if AT&T won't release their cap at 6.0 down.

clubs:
What 6meg cap are you talking about for U-Verse? VRAD's deal with the U-Verse internet which offers 1.5, 3, 6 and 10 meg down.

Gold Coast here (Dearborn / Division). I counted 20 fiber trucks in my neighborhood last week and I stopped and asked one of the guys what they were working on....He said they were prepping for VRAD installs, which should be starting within 30 days

the Gold Coast gets everything WTF! I believe RCN is an option over there along with AT&T Yahoo! DSL and Comcast HSI.

If my memory serves me right about 10 years ago I did some work over there. Scott and State Street was another.

I think I may bust out the bike and go for a little ride tomorrow to look for evidence of VRADs near me. West of the Stevenson has it and you all say east of Midway has it... Getting closer - fingers crossed!

Comcast in under the impression that U-Verse service won't be available in the city of Chicago this year. I was using U-Verse as leverage to get Comcast to renew my Triple Play promo that expired. My bill went up $30.
