| vt1005v refuses to work behind router - need new adapter?
5 year customer, still on my first vt1005v box.
For the last 6 or so months I have had constant connection problems. Cox came out and fixed their line, which was causing some issues, but I still can't get a constant connection.
What I would like:
Cox Motorola SB5101 -- Linksys WRT54GS -- Motorola vt1005v
However, everytime I hook it up that way my Vonage line pops offline after 5-30 minutes. I have tried no QoS setting, full QoS configuration, and everything in between.
So right now I have the vt1005v before my router and it's working ok, but it is severely limiting my d/l speeds (from 16-20kbps to 7kbps) and causes problems when I try to forward ports for utorrent, etc.
So I am pretty much down to trying another adapter and if that doesn't work just giving up. I would like an adapter with no routing capabilities at all, as I don't want to complicate matters.
Between the Cicso and the Linkysys PAP2v2, which one should I get? Or, is there something else I should try with my setup? I have really tried it all, but am willing to try some new suggestions. |

| Strange, my VT1005 lives happily behind my router (a different model than your, tho).
Did you try forwarding the ports that Vonage mentions? You shouldn't have to, but in some cases it might make all the difference. I think SIP registration is on port 5060, but try forwarding 5060 through 5065 to be sure. That SHOULD resolve the problem. |

We will see! 10 minutes and counting with a dialtone! |

can anyone think of anything else that may be causing this? |

IIRC, some VT1005s had bad power supplies. Maybe yours does -- Vonage was replacing those if people complained, I think. Maybe they will spring for a new adapter -- can't hurt to ask. |

| reply to johnnybt Never thought it may be the power supply.
Is there anywhere where I can buy the Linksys PAP2v2 or other non-routing Vonage device?
I went to the following yesterday:
Staples - doesn't carry any Vonage Target - doesn't carry any Vonage Radio Shack - doesn't carry any Vonage Staples - only had the $99 adapter/router
I have yet to try Wal-Mart and Best Buy, but I'm not sure I want to waste the $4.59 gas to be disappointed |
