| I ran some BackTrack tests yesterday and today. My Dell computer with an Intel 3945 wireless card has very limited range. It could only see my local access point when using BackTrack. Six to ten wireless access points are usually visible. Wireshark only sees the beacon information.
My older Dell computer with an Intel 2200 wireless card has much better range. Four access points were visible when using BackTrack. Wireshark sees all of the information -- beacons, authentication, association, 4-way handshake, etc. |
