Read Below...

Unfortunately, our new device failed to receive approval from the FCC.

Subject: Questions About New Service (Not Specific)

Millenicom,

I have heard that your company is going to release a new service as soon as
your device receives Federal Communications Commission approval. I am a
current customer and I was wondering if I would be able to switch over to
this new service somehow and get something like discounts on the device or
something. It is OK if you haven't discussed this yet as on dslreports.com,
Dennis has stated that you have not discussed even pricing for the new
device. But mainly, I want to know if there are any details of the new
service you could say to me and the answers to the above questions. (If any
of the answers are known at this time.)

Thanks!

Also, it is worth mentioning that on their sign up section of their web page,it no longer has Wireless Mobile Broadband as an option.

This could be a bad sign, or a good way for them to stop being bug about it until they resolve it

I'm not a pessimist, but no big surprise to me either.

I doubt this was ever Millenicom's device to begin with. My guess is that was one of those combo WiMax/EVDO guys that Sprint has been rumored to be coming out with. If that's the case, I doubt the manufacturer (Samsung, IIRC) or Sprint would just stop trying to get it certified.

Millenicom is no longer able to add new customers due to the recent changes to Sprint MBB. Since Sprint is no longer unlimited, Millenicom isn't capable of offering their service under those terms. Those who already have the service are covered under the terms of the original agreement with Millenicom, probably until the next contract negotiation takes place.

These are my opinions, but to be honest I think they are pretty accurate.

I remember back when most of us were discovering this technology I seen so many bragging about their 30-40GB per month usage. I knew then that it would be only a matter of time before the restrictions would happen. Dang does everyone DL movies and MP3’s all day everyday?

Go to a rental place or turn on the radio FFS.

DMARKS: I think you'll find that MC is not signing up any new customers because they are out of Franklin devices, and that's the only one that works for their system.

Why that should be is a good question, since they use Sprint infrastructure, and Sprint allow the use of several different devices.

Before MC offered the Franklin last year they were using a Pantech PX500 pmcia, so yeah they "could" use any device that works on Sprint...if they wanted to. Plenty of Sierra Compass units out there.

That is what the official word is, yes, and I'm not going to say that's not the case. However, and as I stated in my earlier post that this is my opinion, with the whole mess Sprint is springing onto their customers, and with Millenicom still Unlimited at this time, it is feasible to conclude that there is more to it than just a device shortage.

Others have stated that with Sprint implementing a 5GB cap, why stick with them when they could go to a reseller like Millenicom and get Unlimited still? There's got to be more here than what has been given as official word.

I'll leave it at that. I've got my Millenicom service. I'm happy with it so far. Just have to keep watch over the unfolding developments with Sprint. Nothing lasts forever.

There is NO restriction with Millenicom and there won't be. The CEO of the company himself has put this in writing, and communicated this numerous times over the telephone.

Why not go with Millenicom? Exactly! That's why those of that are signed on with them are...becasue they do not have any caps, and are a reputable company which Sprint is not. Millenicom is not Sprint. They merely have agreements with them. Sprints contracts and limits have no bearing whatsoever on what Millenicom does or does not do. The CEO of Millenicom does. What he says, is what goes...period. There is no conspiracy.

How mnay times must this be posted before this myth has been beaten down?

So we're back to the same question: why won't MC sign up people who have say, a Sierra Aircard, or some other device that works with Sprint? See the post from Jim_in VA just above.

Are they maxed out, bandwidth-wise? It seems like they are turning down business intentionally and I wonder why they'd do that unless it were physically impossible, which we believe to be not the case, since Sprint does use other devices.

I'm not questioning their stated policy of 'no limits and no contract.' Just wonder why they are turning away business. I feel lucky I got in on this early enough. Actually, I didn't even know MC existed till I came to the sprint forum here and found references to it and started checking it out myself. I think you'd have to look a long ways to find an existing MC customer who's not mostly satisfied with service and support from them.

My guess: Millenicom is fed up with doing business with Sprint and is looking for another alternative for new wireless customers.

I don't think there was a new device in the works in the first place. They arent a 1st tier provider. They're just a middleman reseller.

Millenicom is not fed up with Sprint. They are not signing up new customers because if they did the high bandwidth users would flood to Millenicom's unlimited service. This Sprint cannot allow to happen. It's that simple. The high bandwidth users are going to either have to reduce their use to 5GB or find another provider (if they can).
