You say it Judge Judy!

"SNOOTY residents of Greenwich, Conn., are trying to make trouble for "Judge Judy" Sheindlin."

I swear this town has nothing better to do...

What about all these damn Vermont plates driving around on days end...

You didn't think those snooty Greenwich residents with summer homes in VT and VT plates would just pay their CT vehicle fees and taxes like normal responsible citizens, did you?

Didn't you know? Only little people pay taxes!

It *is* too high, regardless of who you are.

Maybe, instead of forcing their own little oligopolies (via practices that are completely illegal for anyone else) the states should try a little competition in order to attract business and taxes, instead of mis-using the force of law to confiscate citizen's monies?

Yeah, I know: right.

In our News Times, the City of Danbury has a unit which goes around enforcing various laws. Including registration within the town of a vehicle, even with Connecticut plates if it's parked outside a Danbury residence. You'll get a tax bill from Danbury and have to argue it. I believe the program has been fairly successful at nailing tax scofflaws. As the town pro-actively does this, there isn't such a bad feeling from neighbors about it.

One of my neighbors, who moved to Florida about 6 years ago, and back about 5 years ago, still has Florida plates, but religiously locks her car up every night inside the garage. She hasn't had any problems.

I guess with some of the large estates, it'd be tougher to enforce in the wealthier towns.

I know one person who ran around for like 3-4 year with Maine plates.. not sure how he did that...

And I know for sure he did not live or have a house in Maine.

It's a complete fallacy to say that many upper income people don't pay taxes.
One can search the Greenwich Ct's. assessors database online and see how outrageous some of these individuals bills are.

Granted..they're nice expensive homes but to have to pay taxes in these amounts to a little town is outrageous.

Click the "view and pay taxes" link on the left..select real estate taxes..and you can search either by address or name.

Here's one to get you started...
Remember Frank Gifford?
How would you feel if you were him..having had to pay $104,000 in taxes in 2007 on your home to a town the size of Greenwich?

Little people paying taxes? These people are paying through the A$$!

I mean..who could blame them for registering a vehicle or two out of state with bills like that?

I daresay you would too.

I know someone who does this as well. He pays a Maine company to "own" his car for a fee and then register it for him up there. The legality of the whole scheme seems questionable, but after tax and registration savings, he pays far less than me for comparable vehicles.

If anyone is too worried about their neighbor's license plates, I offer: -- GET A LIFE!

A local (cough) journalist was up in arms as she thought some trucks were not paying town taxes, as they were reg'd out of state. Turns out the vehicles are not domiciled in CT. Their place of business and nightly parking spot is very legally, out of state.
Way to go, Pulitzer girl.

That seems odd.. I remember researching Greenwich taxes, and finding that for a $1.6M home in Greenwich, the annual tax bill was about what it is for a $300K home in New Milford. This came out in a Spectrum Viewpoint article by one of the loudest proponents of tax reduction in our town. I used to look at the real estate web sites and check prices on properties, and found some low taxes on million dollar homes in Greenwich. They may pay a lot, but it is still FAR less than we pay per dollar of valuation up here.

Why would you pay car tax in CT when you have a house IN VT and there are none.
Its bad enough that this state has the highest gas tax in the nation, I dont need my gold coast town taking more money from me!
(In all seriousness, it could have been me )
